Hey all,
..
having a nightmare at the moment and wanted to ask for a few suggestions.

Since coming off my VFR NC30 in September I am still trying to get my panels repaired for a decent price.

Now, there are about 3 panels which suffered damage, however a few others have marks on which I mareswell get done at the same time. I opted to get the whole bike done again.

Racepaint UK have quoted me £850+VAT to repair and paint the panels in the SP2 scheme which it currently is.

Dream Machine have quoted me £753.35 inc VAT to repair and paint the panels the same.

It was originally done by Dream Machines in early 2000, and the quality was great.

Should I spend that much money on it to get them looking good again? Is it too much?

Does anyone know any other places I could try??

Thanks

have you considered purchasing a new set of panels , it works out cheaper than respraying , but may require some adjustment.

Just a thought.

No problem,i wish they had these panels around when i had my gullarm,i would of got some straight away,i suppose you still have to paint the tank to match though.I don't know about the quality of them either, they look quite good.

apprantly they are good , but do require adjustment , but should still work out cheaper than the repair and paint idea

The only thing that puts me off those is the quality expected. Is there anyone on here who has purchased them?

Id be losing my current colourscheme and quality of the panels. Im not sure if i would sooner spend a bit more and get some which will last and look 10x better.

They're great for what they are, yes. But if I can find somewhere to knock my current quotes down Id be happier getting it in the SP2 jobbie.

At the moment, i would be happy to spend £600/£650 on paintwork, but if all else fails I may just have to chuck in another £100..

I am trying to save some money for a day to day bike at the moment, which is unfortunately quite hard with this expense!

Should I put the extra £350 into savings and settle for the chinese panels???!

Aahh!

Why bother?

You'll spend all the money on painting it up and you could bin it again as soon as it's finished.

Post some pictures up of the damage. Is it really that bad?

Have you tried Alan Dagg? , he is in Clitheroe I'll try find his number , he is very very good, for a panel repair (weld + filler + paint of 3 colours) its about £135 per panel.

I agree with chives, i mean you could sell the damaged bike for atleast the value of a new paint job i presume as theyre in demand. and then with that money combine it with the money you plan to spend on the paint job and buy a lush example of one!

My experience with Dream Machine was pretty good.

They picked up my bodywork panels, then realised they needed the bike to match my design as closely as possible so had to come back and pick up the bike, then returned the bike so I could continue to work on it, then returned my bodywork once it had been painted - at no extra cost.

They matched exactly to what I wanted, even spraying the logos of my scheme rather than applying decals, as I'd earlier queried about these (wanted them to match the colours of the rest of the paint work) and the finish was very good. They even plugged a whole caused by a broken lug on the bottom of my bellypan (all but invisible to anyone else than myself).

I'd heard good and bad stories about the quality of their work over the last few years, but couldn't ask for more for the work they've done for me. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the advice, mixed reviews on Dream Machines then..

I managed to get a quote on Wednesday from Cordwells for £550, which I couldn't say no to! So, I have dropped my panels off there for repair and respray in the same scheme..

Has anyone been there before?

Im a little nervous of them coming out how I want them, but who wouldnt be I suppose.. They have given me a timescale of next weekend at the earliest - which is very quick!

Ill post some reviews on here afterwards anywho, as there is a substantial difference in price compared to Dream Machine and Racepaint UK..

I would have though that the difference between a good NC30 with knackered paint and a good NC30 with good paint was only about £500 anyway? Why bother spending all that money on a spray job?

Probably less actually, now i come to think about it.

I'd want to get Dream Machine to paint the panels if it was me because a friend works there and it's only 2 minutes from my house, so I get it quite alot cheaper, maybe a friend knows of a friend who will do a deal for you?
A full respray for ANYTHING I wanted for my ZXR was 360 quid. He repaired and repainted a panel for my RS for 40 quid and the paint job was superb.

I think if you got the chinky panels you'd only wish you'd spent the extra and got them redone in SP2 colours.

If you are using it at this time of the year, I wouldn't bother.

Wait for summer.

Because I take pride in what I own and dont want to own a shitter? I know I will lose money when I come to sell it - but I have no intentions of that.. Everyone who modifys their bike loses money..

Sorry, i didnt explain myself very well, i was a bit pissed last night. I meant to say that i agreed with Metalforever's post further up. You could sell your bike with the (presumably) scrawped/scraped panels and put the money you were going to spend on a nice spray job twards it and buy a really nice one (not saying that yours was bad before, OK?).

I dont know about you, but i would buy a nice bike with a bit of panel damage on standard panels, than a re-sprayed bike with no apparent damage, if they were the same price. The first thing i think of when i see a non standard paintjob is , why? Whats he trying to hide? Is the paint job so good that it is better than the orignal? If not, why give the bike an inferior paint job if it isnt to hide something on the cheap?
