Morning all,
New to the forum so thought I'd say howdy! My names Dan and I'm 21. Been itching to get on a bike since my early teens, and now the time has come for me to (potentially) become a fully fledged biker
So I passed my CBT on Thursday with not too much difficulty. I've been driving for four years so I went into it thinking it was going to be really easy, that I would learn the controls in five minutes and be well on my way. I was quite wrong! Ok riding the bike at the training centre is pretty easy, you only have to think about the controls and not hitting the fence, but once mirrors, signals, lifesavers, road position, maneuvours, oncoming traffic, kids, rain and wind are thrown into the mix, it's a lot harder to get the controls right say, coming up to a junction for example (for new riders anyway). After a few shakey moments though I was building my confidence and riding quite well. My only real problem was forgetting to cancel the indicator after a turn. Any tips on remembering would be greatly appreciated
So anyway, the CBT is passed and have my theory this coming Thursday. Will get the DAS booked asap after that.
Wish me luck

The indicators - I got into the habit of every time you go up from 1st into 2nd, making the movement with your foot prompts a movement with your finger to hit the canceller.
Well done on getting started |

Congrats on passing the Cbt. The phrase 'push to kill' is always a good one to remember. The instructor used to drum it into our heads over the intercom.
If your joining a main road for example: Pull away, change up a gear, push to kill, change up again, push to kill and so on - obviously remembering your mirrors too. Sometimes thick gloves wont work properly so its good to push it a couple of times just to be sure. May save your neck on the real test. ____________________ DAS Passed 19th April 08. 07' YBR125 > Yamaha FZ6 S2 '08 > 1998 YZF600R ThunderCat |

Cheers guys
Haha, Pat it's actually quite appropriate as my instructor always says don't forget to 'kill' your indicators so I suppose it may work well. We shall see.
As with the brake lever, I prefer 'obliteration avoidance operator' ____________________ Dan - Soon to be noob biker

I rode behind my ex to give her advice before her DAS and it was the same problem. I would honk the horn and get strange looks
Only takes a couple of days.

Im going to be forgetting to use them again. |

I don't think I ever had a problem with indicators, mainly because I read about everyone having one on here
I tend to press the button a few times after each turn just to make sure. Try it. ____________________ Peugeot Speedfight 2 - Honda VFR400 - Honda CB500 |

It's good to know I'm not the only one, and that you all managed to get it sorted. I suppose I was only out on the road for about 1.5hrs so I can't expect to be a fantastic rider. Although the instructor did describe my riding to be a mixture of Rossi, Foggerty and Bayliss all rolled into one, but I guess that's just his opinion eh?
Saying that though..........they don't use indicators :S CRAP!
Edit:
Will do Nebzor, cheers ____________________ Dan - Soon to be noob biker
