Fork seal retainer clip troubles Aprilia RS125

I am on with the overhaul of my forks and i am really struggling to remove the retainer clip for the fork seal, i'm looking in a haynes manual and the guy is just using a screw driver? so am i?
any ideas people, it would be much appreciated.
Ps, i haven't even seen a spring yet, is it possible they don't have one?

Might be worth posting a picture.

I forget if they're like the ones on the RS250, it just requires some perseverance. A small screwdriver, pick, nail or similar should do it.

I've never done a set of forks where you could do that, was there a bottom bush on the stanchion?

That's the way the RS250 forks work as well.

It's a standard circlip with out the eyes if it's the same.
Basically just required some fiddling.
You obviously want to be digging at the section sloped to create a cut-out kinda thing, but may need to hold the other end with something (another nail, etc).

If you can't move it around the cut-out ring, then some WD40 might be in order. Maybe try a few taps with a hammer - but do be careful you don't damage the fork.

Then it's just going to be a case of persistence and maybe some diddier tools.

As I say; wedge the 'flat' end with something, then try and dig out the 'sharp' end to compress it... presuming it's the same as the 250 forks, which it looks like.

OH DEAR the forks seem to be odd one of the fork sliders has 6 holes in the top and the damper rod does not move and has a spring on it and the other moves free and has only one big hole at the top? maybe these forks have been put together off two different bikes or are they suposed to be odd

Probably supposed to be odd. The ones on the RS250 are designed to be different. Think it was the pre-98 bikes that had this design on the 250 - before the goldfish styling came in.

One side has adjustable damping, while the other has adjustable preload on the spring. Providing the forks are held well (which obviously they well be with a securely clamped spindle etc) then the action won't be unbalanced.
This kind of setup is regularly used on mountain bikes where space and weight are at a premium.

i'm on with the rebuild now, i can't find any info on how much oil to put in and someone told me their's a oil to air ratio i must get right? but i assumed their should be no air at all in them

THREAD CLOSED Forks are now built! it was 430cm/ml i found it in the handbook and a haynes manual showed me the rest. Thanks for everyones help
