https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/7862438.stm

I remember the media going nuts over some flammable tossers with some gas bottles and a bag of nails in a car but there's been a real bomb found and hardly a mention in the UK section. Shhh!Question

It probably didn't show up on a "safety" camera...

And what will shouting about it serve?
Perhaps stir up some more bombings as reprisal and do the work of the terrorist for them?
This is a desperate act by a failing cell of small terrorists and should be seen as such. There has been so much work done over there for peace, not all of it has worked and it is not perfect, but it is working to some degree. I do not want to go back to the days of the Warrington bombs. I remember the night the Policeman was shot, I had been chatting to him a few hours earlier and I also remember the Warrington bombing, again I was talking to a Policeman who had the shout over the radio and he knew his son had gone to the McDonalds that day. Imagine having to go to an area to help others thinking your son was one of the victims. ( fortunately his son had decided to go fishing instead, but would normally hang out with Tim, the lad who did die)

If you think about it then it makes sense. They left a 300lb bomb somewhere then told police where to find it, so obviously hoped it'd be all over the papers without actually ever hurting anyone.

It's not though, not much is said, so they're not getting the publicity they obviously wanted. If only the media was a bit more sensible then publicity stunts wouldn't work like they usually do.

This is the largest piece of evidence they have in the 'war on terror' and it had the potential to be the most destructive.

When there is a 'terrorist' attack by a brown person or anything to do with islam they can't shut up about it, almost like they're trying to create unrest.

Yes because it serves the governments interests, the war on terror, anti-terrorism measures and legislation etc. Irish terrorists are not what they're focusing on and it's better for everyone if it goes away, Islamic terrorists are as popular as global warming, it's a good excuse for everything.

It's not done by guys with beards* so they're not interested.
It doesn't fit with their Clash of Civilizations propaganda profile, or give them the excuse to send more troops and build more bases where all the oil is, and it doesn't help in encircling Russia. They don't want troops in the Bogside any more. It was a useful live training exercise in civil unrest for the military theorists of the time, but they've moved on.

There was a similar incident locally, where a suspicious device (read bomb) was found in a bin in a well known drinking area for the gay community. It didn't even make the newspapers or media. Ultra right homophobes making home made explosives in closets also doesnt make for good useable propaganda, unless they can recruit some nugget from a mosque to set his shoes on fire.

Hi

Bomb in Northern Ireland. Hardly unusual news really. Just like the bombs in Iraq / Afghanistan.

All the best

Keith
