Any recommendations for a laptop backpack for bike use?

Don't really need anything fancy, but could do with a bit of space, ideally so I can fit gym stuff in too (and/or shopping, etc). It's a (widescreen) 15" laptop, so doesn't need to be too big.

Obviously reasonably waterproof would be useful. Ideally not too expensive, too.

Knox SixPack - https://www.planet-knox.com/detail2.aspx?ID=63

Has a separate pouch for laptop that secures inside it and other neat features. Well made, hasn't let me down yet. Thumbs Up

I've got a Jeep rucksack which cost £30. Its lasted over a year but I don't use it on the bike that regularly. It does take a lot of abuse though.

Its got thick foam padding and protects my crappy dell Laptop even though I don't treat it very well. There appears to be loads of similar ones on ebay.

I've got one you can have for free if you like. It's a TechAir something-or-other that I got with a laptop years ago. Haven't used it since I got my Bruce Air bag (and my new laptop's weenie anyway).

I've got two Karrimor ones, both very robust..

Got the monster: https://www.karrimor.com/1SS06N26.htm#

Great if you've got tons of stuff to carry. Usually use it to go to work with, I can get a full suite, shoes, towel, deodorant etc in + laptop and small laptop bag - does the job nicely.

I ride into London and have showers at work so can shower, get changed and fit my boots and leather bottoms back in and then just carry my jacket and lid - so totally full of win for that job.

Only downside is if you don't set it up right, because its tall, you do get some wind bashing it at speed (only really 90+ though).

Day to day: https://www.karrimor.com/SS08/Airspace%20lite%2025.htm

Got a very similar one to this one for when I don't need to carry dead bodies, much smaller and dont tend to notice its actually there most of the time, gets most stuff in without a problem.

I think its either sports world or JJB but one of them does stupidly cheap Karrimor stuff - I think the big rucksack was £20-25 down from £70 - never seen them sold for £70 though but still cheap for what it is, and so far showing no sign of falling apart.

Yo G,

+1 for boblebee megalopolis! I can say that it saved me from further injury when i crashed my bike in scotland too - dug me into the ground so i didn't slide further than what was necessary (by which point i would have been a box truck!)

https://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh313/Titot01/bag2.jpg
https://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh313/Titot01/bag1.jpg

I got all year 9 on my bag and started marking it up! Rolling Eyes

I've got a 14" asus A8JS and it fits nicely. Best check boblbee's website since it has all the approved laptops which fit in the bag - i think 15" is it's limit, so if you've got a 15.4" widescreen, it might just fit.

I got mine from www.ebags.com for £50 but they've ceased trading which is a shame, everywhere else they're 100 quid. If green's not your favourite colour, get bendy to spray it orange! It's basically ABS so it's hardwearing and rugged. Very comfortable at speed too - 100-110mph with a bag full of laptop in a racing crouch never felt more comfortable - the rear of the bag is scooped out to promote good ergonomic posture.

I'm not sure about that boblebee; I a bit too trendy for my liking Razz; out of interest, how easy is it to fit lots of shopping or similar in? Looks like it might be a bit constricting with the rigid shell.

I did a search and saw those when you mentioned them before Keith. I do like the idea and it'd make sense to have it on the tank rather than my back. However, going to be pretty expensive to get the tank cover as well as the bank; more than I want to spend now, or on the zx9 really.
Will keep my eye out on ebay or could always try making my own Smile.

Cheers for all the thoughts, but I have to say, so far Bendy's suggestion seems the most attractive on 'value for money' so reckon I'll go for that Smile.
(Incidentally, the DAB is doing stirling work in the Garage, allowing me to avoid the inane drivel of pop-radio, though was a bit posher than I was expecting!)

Hi

You can often pick up the covers 2nd hand. If you don't care about the colour matching then that should make it cheaper (eg, we have a pretty revolting pink and purple cover on the ZZR600, which was about £25 2nd hand and came with a free matching bag).

All the best

Keith

Got me one of those Oxford Jobbies. Holds a good bit reasonably waterproof and about 40 quidish. Prefer not to wear any tho just in case I come off.

I’ve used one of these for the last two years:

https://www.targus.com/uk/product_details.asp?sku=TSB212

Cost me about 30 notes from ebuyer if I remember correctly.

It’s held up well to pretty hard use. I often carry tools in addition to the laptop so the whole package gets extremely heavy, yet all the stitching is still solid.

There’s quite a large amount of space once the laptop is on board, certainly enough for gym kit or a bit of shopping.

It’s been through some torrential downpours and the main compartment has stayed dry. I do however keep a thick plastic bag in the back pouch which I use to wrap the laptop if it’s pissing down. Just in case.

Neither the phone pocket on the strap nor the “walkman” pocket (which I use for all my USB sticks and smartphone) are in any way waterproof.

It has a waist strap, but I confess I’ve never used it. The strap stays tucked into the mesh side pockets until you reach about 140mph when they come out and proceed to whip you around the ass and thighs in a quite invigorating manner… Shocked

…allegedly. Embarassed Wink

Loads of pockets help me organise all my crap and I‘ve come to rely on it as my mobile office. Highly recommended. Thumbs Up

These are expensive but they are brilliant, you don't even know you are wearing it.

They sometimes come up on ebay.

Personally I don't like wearing a backpack whilst riding. Why not a topbox, or even better, a Ventura luggage system.

Venturas are the absolute nuts, one day I will have one, oh yes. Sadly they are a touch on the pricey side, but well worth it IMO.

I always have a backpack when riding, feels weird without one Laughing For cheapness why not buy a small skin type case for the laptop then put it in a normal backpack. I might try upload a pic of the case if you want?

On a side note i've always wondered can carrying stuff in a backpack be dangerous if you had an off?

Neil, Very nice find! I think I might buy myself one of those.

Does anyone know of any other backpacks that have a holder for putting the helmet in/on the backpack much like in the link neil provided? I hate having to carry my helmet around in my hand. I would much prefer to strap/attach it to my backpack in some sort of way.

With regards to wearing the backpack.. if you don't want to wear it while riding, couldn't you just buy one of those mesh/cargo net things and wrap it down onto the rear seat? I'm contemplating this. Esp if i want to buy a HighVis belt/vest
