Hey guys,

Just passed my test in December and am really looking for a Hornet - from what I've heard they seem the best. I found this one - https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140297466221&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123

It looks really nice, although has had a few upgrades and seems quite good for the price.

What do you think?

Thanks,

Omar

Wouldn't touch it.

Too many mods on it, particularly those cheap, aftermarket clocks that would be easy to steal I bet. I had them and they're a right bugger to set-up, should something go wrong with them.

Plus, amtt black paintwork on a bike that price? No chance.

I like the look of it, but matt black is always an eyebrow raiser. Buy a standard Hornet and DIY job it perhaps?

what are you on?

prime example of an ex hornet cup race bike!

racing rear sets.......why?

fibreglass single seat unit........and a bodged on back light sticking out like a baboons ars in heat

aftermarket clocks.......sold the originals to buy some race tyres?

non original headlamp/mount..............original removed for racing

all over cheap one colour paint job.........was gobbed repeatedley and filled

please don't! there's loads more out there, buy a more standard one and customise it to your own taste!

bike looks fugly as hell. In my view all aftermarket bikini fairings put onto a bike look like an after thought. and just do not suit a bike or any bike at all.

cor, im glad i got some advice before i went for it...i dont think i will anymore! thanks everyone!

i also found out some insurance quotes and the only one that would cover me for all those mods was £1100 which is slightly horrific.

out of interest, how much should I expect to pay for an okay, good condition hornet? obviously there are lots of variables, but roughly?

For £1000 - £1500 you will easily get a:
- 2000 ish model
- Only sensible mods (alarm, crash bungs)
- good condition (surface scuffs and light corrosion on downpipes and fasteners only)
- sensible mileage (under 30k, ideally with history)

E.g.

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2001-HONDA-CB600-HORNET-EXCELLENT-COND-YELLOW-cb-600_W0QQitemZ260351048683QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Motorcycles?hash=item260351048683&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A7|39%3A1|240%3A1318

Hornet in that kinda range makes a good first bike that most people won't get bored of too quickly. Cheap to fix if you do drop it, and you won't loose too much if anything when you sell it if you don't drop it.

the one that Freshal linked to looks to be the way better deal to me ...

never ridden a hornet but i doubt i'd pay more than 800 for the first one, and i'd have to be desperate to part with that much, i suspect it's been crashed and bodged back together (just my suspicion) that aftermarket fairing looks truly hideous on that bike (it looks hideous on most bikes), photo's of the original clocks means nothing to me (how many hornets have been produced ? )...

if it hasn't been crashed it certainly hasn't been very well thought out when it was built and painted

Best thing about hornets are they are relativley cheap and you can do lots of things to them and get the look you like! I was advised they are a good starter bike and i picked one up 1999 model with 7K on the clock for 1800! bargain in my eyes, but then Ive put and changed stuff to it, mainly added a Akraprovic Exhaust.

Cheers everyone! I'd been looking at the hornet Freshal posted the link to, and then went and bid for it - its now mine Smile £1800 for a 2001 model with 21k miles...

It arrived today and I couldn't be happier - only annoyed at having to wait until the 16th before I can ride it (needs to be restricted and some heated grips).

Just revving it the car park, it seems to be a LOT more powerful than my 125 - fingers crossed for not killing myself.

Word of warning- that bike says it has a spyball, the previous owner had a spyball alarm fitted to my bike and it left me at the side of the road on the M25 - they are a bit temperamental - always carry a spare set of fuses mini blade 5's and a few normal 10s and 5s for safe measure will least be able to get you home!

and also now you have your hornet you can sex it up a bit if you want:

It looked a bit tacky Thumbs Down
I love the look of hornets if standard - But once you start messing with them it starts to look ugly.
If you want to streetfighter it then a Bandit I would say.
Leave the hornet a lot Laughing
