My brother just got a hazard perception CD which you can practice. So I installed it, took a few test, and then did the actual exam. I couldn't believe how hard it was. Sure they was easy to spot, but there was where I didn't even click because there was no hazard. The voice over on the CD said 'There will be one developing hazard on each scene' - I didn't see one. I must be blind as a bat! Anyone else finding this hard? I read on BCF that some guy said he passed his hazard perception with full 70 marks, now, although this could be possible, I find this hard to believe. Anyway, I did pass the test, just about though, 40/75. Passed by only two marks. Think I'm going to take another to see if it was a fluke, or just because I'm, new to it. I hope it's the latter.

It does seem to be crap.
And the true pass mark is 45/75 change the settings to put it inline with the official pass mark. Gives you something to aim for as well.

Without digging out my papers, I think I got about 65 out of 75.

It really isn't as hard as it looks, but obviously you are racing against the computer, and you don't know when it starts.

Click on anything that is a hazard (kid by the side of the road, parked car on a bend, car approaching junction),

then click again if it develops (kid steps onto road, car door opens, car pulls out of junction)

then click again if it causes you to change speed or direction (kid jumps in front of you, car cuts you up etc).

As long as you avoid clicking every second (computer thinks you are cheating), you can click a few times for every hazard.

If it's the same CD I had, it's different from the real test anyway.

Good luck.

Shade
It either wasn't that bad, or I'm that good.

the real test is a lot easier with clear video and better response from the mouse clicks e.t.c

the hazard perception part on the cd i had was very poor video quality and un-responsive

just my opinion though

Do you click on the actual hazard, or just a button that says "I can see a hazard"?

Is it an actual video or an animation?

It is actual footage from a car driving round the streets.

You click anywhere on the screen, it doesn't matter where, the trick is just to click whenever you see anything that could be a hazard, again when it might be a hazard, and again when it is a hazard.

Easiest to keep the mouse cursor out of the way in a corner of the screen, don't move it, and just click as I've said.

Master of the mouse.

So what's the actual test like then? IS it just one long continuous scene or is it several? The CD I have is quite good quailty so that's alright. I'm getting craper by the way.

It's several different scenes, similar to the CDROM. If you got the Focus Multimedia one, it's a lot different to the actual test, but I think they did quite well considering they didn't have access to the real test footage. I got 47/75 on the real test. Passed by a squeak. Confused

seperate scenes

about 14 i think from memory

most are obvious

for instance a fire engine coming down a side road. you click once when you see it and then again when it pulls out into the road

same when a motorbike comes tearing it down a side road.

one clip had you driving behind a lorry and you have to click when you would change speed or direction.

another clip had a man unloading a van who walks across your path without looking.

a lot easier to interact with than the practice cd i had

edit:-

you dont have to position the cursor over the hazard you just click the left or right mouse button when you see a hazard developing

If memory serves, it's 15 video clips, with a pause between each one.

Most of them have one hazard, but one of them has two I think.

And it's not as bad as you fear, trust me.

Not a doctor, but you can trust me anyway.

it's a lot easier on the actual test

you do get a mark though from 5 down to 1 on each clip on how quickly you spot each hazard developing

so remember that

I did the hazard perception test on 10 July, got 64/75. There are 14 clips, each with at least one hazard, and one of the clips will have two. I would go with Shade_BW's advice. Click on potential hazards, and then again when they cause you to take action - slow down, change direction.

Good luck with the real thing! Thumbs Up
