Was out over the weekend and my bike has picked up a fair bit of road crude/salt. I usually hose the bike down if I can, but didnt this time and dont have one handy or an easy access to water.

A while ago, I did chemistry at school and think I am right in saying that once it has dried on and crusted over, the corrosion effect will be minimal, until water gets on it and again and dissolves the salt?

Anyway, thinking about cleaning the bike, i have muc off and usually go beserk with that, and have acf-50 and some wurths corrosion inhibitor. Do you guys apply anything specifically to protect the plastics/paint etc?

thanks.

Plastics should be fine, it's the metal you have to worry about.
Some liberal WD or some even use vaseline on choice parts though I could imagine this could get messy.

As with every niche there are products that market themselves epsecially for this purpose.

OT the Topic title "Salt corrosion" reminds me of James bond living daylights where he lasers the police car off the chassis, looks at the girl and simply says

.

Priceless.

how do you get behind the farings? I wouldnt fancy taking them off everytime. (e.g. engine/oil filter area).

I would use greese or proper oil on these.... WD 40 is not a lubricant, but a water inhibitor.
So while it will clear the water out, it then leaves the pivot points dry and they will wear faster.

So WD 1st then some proper lube. Thumbs Up

If water or a hose is not handy try buying a pressure can that you pump to pressure.bigger the better. https://www.hozelock.com/spraying/effortless-outdoor-sprayers/killaspray-mod/killaspray-10-litre-sprayer.html
or similar
