Hello,

I've had my YZF-R125 for a month now, and have covered about 1500 miles on it, i'm really pleased with it and cannot stay off it! So this is pretty much my mini review of it.

Before this bike I had a restricted Aprilia SR50 moped, so the step up in power and seating position was quite large, but not major.

Seating Position.
This initially worried me when I first purchased the bike, I was not sure how long it would take me to get used to it as it is a sporty position. However, I was relieved as I found it very easy and got used to it within a few hours, it feels comfortable considering the position, especially at the bike's higher speeds.

Handling.
The handling is very learner friendly I have found, being quite low to the ground on the bike (as opposed to being a bit higher up on motocross style bikes) feels quite safe, and allows me to get more and more used to leaning.
The bike also has a fairly low centre of gravity, so balancing is easy, the bike can be stopped for a few seconds without having to put your feet on the ground.
The clutch is also very smooth, I found it very easy to use even when I had no experience on a geared bike at all, just the theory of it.

Acceleration and Speed.
The acceleration on this bike is obviously not as good as the RS125, same as with the top speed, but i've found that it still has very good acceleration, the bike accelerates fastest at around 7,000rpm, taking only a few seconds to reach 50mph.
The top speed on the bike is 80mph at around 10,000rpm in 6th, I would've expected the gearing to be set up so that it would be generally faster to go in 5th, but on this bike it is not the case, 5th is capable of about 68mph at 10,000rpm, so it is reassuring knowing that you have another gear there for more speed.

Looks.
I would be lieing if I said that I did not buy this bike because of the looks, it played a major part in the decision, although also the fact that it is dead on the 15BHP limitations also meant that I would have more power than if I bought the CBR.
The looks are superb on this bike, although the rear bar at the end ruins the back, to solve this, I purchased a tail tidy, which definitely improves it to no end, making it look very similar to the R6.

Economy.
The R125 has a 13.8L tank, with this I can get around 350miles, which I would say is very good for the amount it costs to fill up.

Pictures.
These were only taken with a 2 megapixel camera phone on the day that I received it, I'll take a picture with the tail tidy tomorrow.

There we are, thanks for taking the time to read this, and sorry if it seems that I ramble on, i'm not too good at writing like this. Very Happy

EDIT: 06/08/08 - more pictures added including tail tidy.

Saw one of these in central manchester about a week ago and it surprised me at first. Saw the L plates and thought 'You can't have an R6 on L plates' until I got closer and it dawned on me.

Looked fantastic Thumbs Up

They look like an R6 SOO much that i made the mistake of nodding to one! Rolling Eyes Wink . The guy looked back very confuzzled. They are lovely bikes and something i probably wouldn't have minded 4 years ago.

Easily remedied. I'm going to start selling "ZERO KITS" for the R-125.

What this means is that the 17 year old folk buying these bike can add an extra digit, namely this ZERO next to their FIVE making it an R-1250.

Knowing the racing sponsorship sense of certain 17 year olds, they can expect to put XeroX decal kits on a yamaha bike and have a Yamaha R-1250.... something to rival the Duke 1098?

THAT will give them the performance of a though... at least psycholigically it will Wink

So PM me for "Yamaha Motorsports ZERO kits"

115mpg. That is impressive with the level of performance offered.

All the best

That is his claim. 13.8L tank is 3.03 gallons. 350 miles on that is 115mpg. Unless it has a mileometer counting in km (which would make it 72mpg).

All the best

Keith

MCN says 52mpg.

https://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/bikereviews/searchresults/Bike-Reviews/Yamaha/Yamaha-YZF-R125-2008-current/

this says 100mpg.

https://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews172875.html

seems a lot of places are getting confuses as to what it can actually do.

Readings are in miles, definately 350 miles to a tank, my current tank is on 290 with a third left indicated.

Engineering logic dictates that larger numbers impress more... that is unless you're talking from an industrial safety basis where larger numbers are bad!

My zero kit will kick ass, because some people will see it as an addition...adding more to the back. Psychologically it will be positive too since you're not taking anything away from the bike. Besides Mister Asian man, namely me, can benefit from the extra profit from selling "ZERO KITS" - i'm off to fly to indonesia where i'm sure i will be able to manufacture these "ZERO KITS" for dirrt cheap (slave labour stylee) and might be able to pass the discounts to any R125 owners Mr. Green Karma

Engineering logic dictates. As i also say, one often overlooks the psychological aspect of riding motorcycles .

Had a closer look at one of these today parked up, it was another yellow one and i quite liked it, one thing that really lets them down is the end can IMO.

it's just too big for the bike and looks cheap...
