Hey all,

Ive taken forks apart before with no problem, however Im struggling on one from my NC30

Once the fork is fully disassembled and its just a case of pulling the tube up the leg until the seal comes out - It isnt happening!

The seal seems to be truly stuck in, no matter how much I pull them.

I have been told I should try putting penetrating oil around the seal and then heating it up - but whats the best way??

What would you recommend I use to heat it up, and where exactly should I heat up??

Thanks in advance..

Blow torch on the fork leg not the stanchion , the problem you have now is that the fork leg is HOT and you need to grab it somehow to yank it / slide hammer it out.

Ok, dumb question first, have you taken out the clip holding the seal in place?

Sorry, I can offer no other advice than to do it just give it some!

If everything is loose then you have the best slide hammer available.

If you are still trying to split the legs put the stanchions back into the yokes, otherwise you will be there all day.

And daft question two, you did take out the damper rod bolt from the bottom of the fork!!

If you've done what you should have done (and I'll assume that you have), then you'll just need to persevere ... I had the same problem once, just a really good fitting seal.

Would be handy if you could clamp the fork leg somehow, means you can put all your effort into pulling on the stanchion ... putting back onto yokes may work, but awkward to then give the lef a good pull (ooer).

Thanks,

Yeah I did try putting it back into the yokes, but as the bike is resting on its rear wheel and an axle stand I cant force it enough.

I will have a go with the ideas so far anyway - something must work!

With it in the yokes just use the fork leg like a slide hammer.
