Hey everyone.

Finally over the weekend I got my NSR 125 fixed (it had some problems with charging the battery) went out for a ride a couple of times over the weekend and everything was fine.

This morning, I rode in to work, and even at lunch time, the bike was working well.

Unfortunately when I finished work and started up the bike - mind you it was outside in the rain all day long - I felt like it was lacking power, but it still started up, so I was on my way back home. After a few minutes tho it simply cut out and wouldn't start anymore. I tried for a couple of minutes to start it up - once it did, but died as soon as I stopped revving the engine and after that, I just couldn't do anything.

Any ideas what could cause this? Could it be the fact that it's been sitting outside in the heavy rain without a cover all afternoon? If so, what should I do with it / if not, what else could be the problem?

There's enough petrol in the tank and 2stroke oil too.

Any help appreciated.
cheers

My NSR had a similar issue when the choke was sticking and not disengaging. Would bog down on idle.

Check that and check your plug for fouling too.

hmm, thanks for the tip

Now that you say I can remember the choke was really weird, it felt like it got 'stuck' when I was shutting it off, if it makes sense.

thanks again, will check it tomorrow when I get back to the bike

Exactly what happened to mine. I had to unflip the choke and push it in before you could feel the cable slide back into place - if that makes sense.

If it is then get plenty of oil down it to free it up. Thumbs Up

water could have made its way into your fuel, my bike doesnt like working in the rain full stop, think yourself lucky.

If it is still not working now . . drain your carb and put fresh fuel in your tank.. Should do the trick.
And get some wax oil or wd 40 will do and spray it all round your spark plug and cap. sometimes if your spark plug gets wet it does this. Before now i have had to stop, wipe my plug with my sleave and go again.

dan

And get a good cover Smile

Yeh check the choke cable is running free no kinks in it its very common on the nsr for the cable to stick if its not routed properly let us know how you get on.

Change the plug for good measure, try opening the fuel cap and starting it, it could be a problem with a breather, you said it was recently fixed whoever did it may have kinked a breather or put it on wrong.

The fact that it was raining when it was playing up could mean coils or HT leads.

Here's a bit of an update.

I went to pick up the bike from the house where I've left it last night (thank God for kind strangers) and checked the choke, it felt alright, so I gave it a go and the bike started up almost instantly.

Unfortunately after starting it up, and opening the choke, it still felt weird. The revs didn't go as high on idle as it should with a fully open choke and when I closed it, I could feel it's just about to stall.

As I had to get into work this morning I decided to ride in (it's a max 2miles ride) but on the whole way I had to rev the engine, to prevent it from cutting out. (some people must have thought I'm a nutter, revving at red lights, hah)

Luckily I made it in to the office, but as soon as I've turned into the parking lot and let the revs drop, it cut out and since than, wouldn't start.

choke must be only for cold starts . apply this :
- dismount air foam filter and clean it (then slightly oil it)
- dismount carb , clean it (especially choke piston), fit a 42 slow jet (idle jet)
- set pilot screw 2 1/2 turns out (the small one) , leave idle screw as it was
- start with choke , without acceleration (rpm can go up to 3500)
- after 30s to 1 mn the rpm will drop down as engine seems to stuff
- apply a bit of acceleration then choke off
- let it like that for 1mn then release handle
- set idle at 1400 rpm +- 100 with idle screw (the big one with the spring)
Note : if your engine cut out it's the choke which is faulty (clogged cable, sharp bend, worn choke piston)
later on if you start again the bike (less than 2 hours depense on outside temp.) , choke off with a bit of acceleration
