 |
|
Hi all, i recently took my cbt on 1st of feb ( when the snow started coming down) and passed. I desperatly want to get on the road but struggle to decide what 125cc bike i wanna get. I 1st looked at the honda cbr 125 but as im 6ft 3 i found it to be small for me.
Other bikes that have interested me is Yamaha ybr 125 and hyosung 125 gt, what would you guys recomend?I have read many posts and reviews about avoiding chinese bikes (hyosung??)
i went to my local yamaha dealer and saw a 2009 yamaha 125 ybr for just under £2000 but that comes with free helmet(likely to be a crap one ), 2 year warranty, gloves, 1 year free insurance third party fire and theft and tax. However i would get it on finance wich is a big thing for me, especially with jobs going left right and centre and credit crunch etc.
OR
my cousin wants to sell his hyosung 125 gt, he about as tall as me so id find the a better fit to ride. he wants £2000 for it as its just over 1 year old with about 2k miles, he also will throw in a helmet, gloves, jacket all in very good condition.
Having said that something tells me i should go for the hyosung as its from family and my mind will rest bit better as i wont worry about the finance and interest if i was to get the yamaha ybr etc
anyway what would you guys choose????
all ur help and replys will be appriciated and thank you
CHEERS GUYS. SUPPOSE IT WOULD BE SENSIBLE TO BUY A CHEAP 125 AS I WOULD WANT TO PROGRESS TO A BIGGER BIKE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. HAPPY RIDING ALL :d ____________________ p.northam

hi there, i was in a similar situation to you when i passed my cbt 6 months ago, i went out and bought a brand new cbr 125 which now lookin back was a mistake for me, the reason being is that i paid nearly £3000 for the bike but it is now only worth half that with less than 1000 miles on the clock, and now i am wanting to take my test and get a bigger bike and have lost quite a bit of money if i trade in, u may also want to progess to a bigger bike in maybe a year or so, so in that respect i would not buy brand new, also you do get bored on a 125 after a few months, my
advice would be to just buy a cheap 125 that suits you to gain
some experience and then see how u feel in a few months time,
there are some decent 125s kicking about for anything between
600-1000 £, dont really know much about the hysoung so cant
really comment. There is also some half decent clothing and helmets for not to much money if you shop about take a look at www.busters-accessories.co.uk, hope this helps. |

do you want to take your test and get a bigger bike? if so, dont spend that much on a 125. Buy a cheap old jap 4-stroke 125 and get your practice on it. Will only perform the same as the modern ones, 65/70 tops, silly fuel consumption then sell it on when your finished
sports 4-stroke 125's are just shit ____________________ Reiju RS2 Matrix

Hyosung is Korean and has built up a sturdy reputation now. I was considering the GT650r myself as the new price is incredible. Though the 125r price is only about £1000 less!
Consider resale prospects in your area as this is the only real consideration worth taking into account for a 125, as 4strokes all perform dull and you will almost invariably sell it as soon as you pass. Also get a new helmet if you do get the Hyosung, your mates old one will probably not be a perfect fit and may have been dropped at some point.
My personal opinion on the 2 bikes, not very valid having never owned either, is I would take the Hyosung. Purely as it looks like more than a 125. ____________________ Current Bikes: Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 (2020)

From then on, I and the bicycle feelings deeper. |

i am currently on a ybr 125 from my insurers. i'm only 5 foot 9 and find it very comfy. infact i feels similar to a suzuki gs 500 to me. however the power is lacking. i was following my boss on a cbr 125 today and i could hardly get to 45/50. he left me at every point. i weigh about 87-90 kg though. i am guessing you will be heavier then me. my rs 125 doesn't really struggle as much at all getting to even 70. so it's very frustrating to struggle to overtake a car at 30 lol. not that you should but if you don't mind chilling and just riding around in a comfy position then it's a good bike. unfortunately i'm use to going gun hoe.
i suggest you test ride the hyosung and see how ti is for speed. ____________________ Hit the G spot. |

I rode a YBR for about 18 months after I passed my CBT and found it a great little bike. The stock tyres are worse than useless but you can get some decent tyres for about 60 quid a pair and they last about 10,000 miles. My YBR cost me £1995 brand new with free insurance etc and about £150 of free kit thrown in.
18 months on I sold it to a guy round the corner from me for £1400, so £400 quid a year depreciation, but that bike never let me down, always started and nothing broke at all in that time. Also my YBR would hold 55-60 on the main road easily and hit an indicated 72 down a big hill. If I had to make your choice I'd buy a YBR again without a second thought. ____________________ CBT - Aug 2006, YBR125 2006-2008, A2 - Aug 2008, New bike to come soon |
