leathers , which ones?

ok so lots and lots of leathers available out there and i am thinking of a change.

what are good brand leathers, currently have kawasaki branded but fancy a change. however budget is the key.

i see a lot of cheaper sets (£200) online and was wondering if it is worth having a punt on them. i dont mind paying the price but i am not a fashion queen so if there are options where i dont need to walk around as an advertising billboard and still be protected i am interested.

If your not in a rush then Scott leathers are extremely good. They'll build a suit to your spec and don't charge the earth. It takes them a few weeks though, their factories only little.

If your on more of a budget, my RST voltage suit stood up well to one (fairly big) crash but it wasn't usable afterwards. Good quality and protection for the price.

actually seen some good deals on spyke leathers..

so what is the general opinion of them?

I have a set of made to measure hideout leathers, they can be quite expensive depending on spec.

Spyke stuff is ok.

Unfortunately with leathers they do tend to be you get what you pay for.(Certain big name brands excepted)

Teknic Chicane suit, they are discontinuing them and they come in at under £200 now. Various magazine spraise them and ive crashed in one and came out fine.

Hein Gericke's leathers are pretty good and very cheap at the moment. They have a massive sale on. A mate of mine crash tested his HG leathers regularly and they stood up to the abuse pretty well.

best thing you could do is go to shops where you can actually try the leathers on..

you would be amazed how sizes and cuts vary so one make may fit you in a totally different size as another.

most places will have some form of discounts available..

we have to clear room for the new season range at the moment..

A mate of mine got some cheap leathers off fleabay. They looked really good and seemed OK but after a while the sort of pulled out of shape.

I don't know how they would stand up in a crash, he declined my request to chuck his bike down the road to test them, wus

I ended up paying a bit more for a set of Ixs leathers that have lasted me well.

As said before, I think you get what you pay for in this case.

Anyone have an opinion of Held? I have an Aras jacket, and it looks great but not sure If I'd trust it in a crash. The leather seems a bit thin? I know they are meant to make good gloves but I've never heard any reports of their jackets and trousers.

i dont mind paying the price if i have to, thats not the issue. i am just curious as to whether i can get equally good, or good enough without a £500 price tag.

these are the ones i am looking at, RRP £519, most places have them at £400+, a couple have them £350 but i can get them for £275.

sorry, no im not skint..

i meant it as in can i get budget leathers without a budget quality.

and as i mentioned i see a lot of leather suits sub £200 and think, 'whats the difference?'

im not a tart so if i can get very good protection for less money then i will happily take that and leave the rest of the cash in the bank.. so budget is kind of key.

I've tried on loads of clothing over the last few weeks

weise gear seemed well made, but the neck piece stuck into my neck on every jacket they had, making me want to barf

HG gear was nice enough tho was far too stiff, and the arms were a bit long for me so they were out due

tried on some arlen ness 2 piece gear and it fit like a glove, tight on chest and back where it should be, but where my joints were really supple leather was used which meant i could flex perfectly, same for the trousers and ended up buying them! cost a fair bit but for leathers to fit me perfect i went for it! Seems really well made too.

they dont seem too bad, but i see no reference to leather thickness so could be quite thin.

at the end of the day they would probably be suitable in a slowish off but i wouldnt want to wear them on a spirited ride, just in case.

edit, saying above though, if you are on a very tight budget then i would buy them as they are going to be a lot better than jeans and combat jacket (or whatever).

they have got protection and are leather so should, as mentioned, if you have no gear and you are skint.. buy them!

Thickness is 1.3mm.Im not skint ,but do i really need to spend 2/3 hundred on a set............I have read the review and people seem happy

People seem happy with them, but the real test is how they crash. Mind you one usualy pays for branding so they /could/ be as good as more expensive leathers

In my history of buying leathers I have bought a set of ashman leathers for £14, dainese two piece for £70, dainese two piece for £100 (matching) and a HG two piece set for £80.

Plenty of good second hand stuff to be had especialy in winter
