Hello Good People.

Could someone please explain the difference between an undertray and a tail tidy?

Im looking at tidying the rear of the bike up, at the moment its got the stock rear mudguard and indicators. I would like the back of the bike to look less standard. The bike is a Hornet 600

Thanks for the help

Tail tidy tends to just replace the stock parts that held the indicators and number plate.

Undertray is above the hugger/rear wheel and on the Hornet 600 allows you to have different tai lights. What year is it? From what I remember the pre '03 models usually had shotgun tail lights with the undertray but the '03 and on it's just the same...

If you want to make it look less stock get the undertray. You might have to buy the new tail lights but someone come with them Thumbs Up

And good choice on bike Wink

An undertray replaces the underside of the seat unit. A tail tidy is a bolt on numberplate holder that replaces the (usually) huge stock assembly on standard bikes.

See here for undertray example

Thanks chaps.

So if I wanted to get rid of the big ugly bit of black plastic that the number plate and indicators bolt on too at the back of the bike would I need to replace the undertray or get a tailtidy?

thanks

The Hornet, I'd recommend the undertray. It has a bit underneath the tail light that "sticks" out a little bit which is where the numberplate would go. As for indicators you'd have to get a different set or put them somewhere else.

Powerbronze do a good range of what they call 'Tailguards' which sorts you out with an undertray and tail lights. The new look site seems a bit confusing as to wether it comes with a number plate mount as well??

That should be the Honda link

On the above link it shows the Hornets with the curvy and sharp rear tail. If you look underneath the tail light there is a flat bit which is where you'd stick the numberplate and could possibly drill holes at the side for the indi's. Thumbs Up

In a nutshell; Some bikes need some cutting and fettling to get rid of the 'ugly bit'. Others are much easier.

You need to find an undertray for your bike and check fitting process.
