I need a two man tent for racing and touring. Needs to fold up small enough to fit on the bike, but needs to be big enough to comfortably sleep two people.

Anyone got anything they'd care to recommend?

A 3 man tent....is what you should be looking for , since 2 man tents are only good for one person...

I've had:

An apache 3 dome tent lost in Spain , big enough for me and my gear and very little else...

I currently have (but don't use yet) a Gerlert Nakina plus tent , purely because it packs into a small space. Its a kebab type tent and its cramped for one person...

This tent racing sounds intriguing. Laughing

Anywho, what you need is a TeePee. I bought mine from Argos 'cause it was cheap. Pretty useless to get on a bike, but so many cool points. Razz

Stinkwheel did a good tent guide here a little while ago.

Kyham one touch, 3 man 'Biker'. Put it up in a few minutes and take it down in a few minutes, plenty of room in the porch for gear. I have no probs carrying it on my bike.

The Vango TBS tunnel tents fold down small and have loads of space in them. The sleeping area holds two comfortably and they have almost the same again as porch.

Come in a variety of sizes and prices depending on materials and required level of weatherproofness.

The spirit 200 will fit in an oxford sports pannier with room to spare and is a proper 4 season tent. I've had it up in a true force 10 wind and it stayed up Thumbs Up

You can also get cheaper versions with less high-tech materials for camping in more clement weather.

My comments on the other thread stands - if you can fit a 80cm disc on your bike, then I'd definitely recommend one of the black-out pop-up tents.

Wotcha.

The 'Biker' get my vote too. Bought one earlier this year. This is the third Kyham I've bought . . . I wore the other two out. Well, to be more precise, they degraded due to sunlight. I really must stay in more Mr. Green

What is meant by single skin? I always get confused about that?
Is it where there is only 1 layer between you and the outside world, or does it include tents where there is 1 waterproof outer and the breathable inner tent?

I recently bought a £9 tent from Tesco, and it stood up reasonably well the weekend before last in the middle of a valley in Derbyshire with circa 30mph winds and kept me dry inside too, although after reading all this seeing as I want to take up camping more makes me think I need to buy a better tent!

If it worked in harsh conditions, probably might as well keep it until it stops working at least.

Single skin is just a single layer as far as I know - as opposed to having a waterproof 'fly sheet' and some kind of inner.

I have a 3-man Gelert tent, folds pretty small and has stood up to torrential rain & wind in Scotland this year. I use it on my own, but there would be plenty of room for 2 and still space for bike gear. Mine also has a big porch area with a groundsheet. I have used it loads this year and plan on taking it on the bike many times next year too.

Hot: Khyam. we've had loads of these because they're brilliant for ease of use and compactness (is that a word?)

Not: Vango. We had alot of these but got rid of them all because they break ridiculously easily.

Terra Nova stuff is nice, it is also expensive.

This looks pretty good though,

Infact there is some rather nice stuff. Hmm.

My Kyham Biker is my second Kyham. I bought the first (an Igloo model) in 1995 and I still use it occasionally.

You can put the thing up in all weathers in about a minute and be inside watching some muppet getting wet and struggling to thread poles through a flapping piece of fabric and still trying to undo his bag of tentpegs as you drink your first beer, whilst shouting encouragement.
