It's called condensation mate. It happens in cold weather a LOT, especially if you do a lot of short journeys. Take your bike on a 20 mile run, allowing the engine temperature to get relatively warm - it ought to disappear by then. I've had it on the blade and the 6r when i did short journeys this month (1 mile or less) with a lot of cold starting. You shouldn't worry about it.

If your engine still drives smoothly and you're not burning excessive oil (check colour of exhaust smoke), you're fine

If not, you have water and oil mixing; leaking head gasket.

Thumbs Down

Do you do short journeys?

I do, a lot and I have this white muck on the glass - even more so on the oil cap - condensation.

Go out and ride a nice journey - normally 45 miles would clear it (for me to the OH's house)

I used to do journeys of around 4 miles each way and the white would stick always.

Listen, I don't want to sound like a smart arse or anything, but the process is called emulsification, and it is caused when two immiscible liquids (ie; water and oil) are homogenised in the sump. You are entirely right in that it is usually caused by moisture when in small quantities. However when large amounts of emulsion are formed, it can be another story..

So how about you stick that thumb back up your arse where it belongs.

Writing an explanation along those lines rather than its water in the oil would have been more helpful to the original poster.

But anyway I'd try giving it a decent ride if you've been doing a lot of short trips.

I think you need to double that as i do a 20 mile each way commute and still get the goo...

Something else that does not help is bike being parked in the cold/damp after a run. As the engine cools down condensation forms in the engine, due to outside being colder then inside, just the same as single glazed windows in your house.

Totally agree with the Condensation as i noticed this rank shit in my oil and when i changed my Air filter i saw this

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/Gix010.jpg

Went out on a fairly long run about 60 miles and its cleared it up alot but some still there so its an excuse for another long run

I Shat the first time i asked somebody as they said head gasket had gone so i rang local Mechanic and he said Around £300 to £400 to fix Neutral

Just go out for a long ride Thumbs Up

Most likely it's emulsification caused by water in the oil. Chances are this is because of condensation, usually this is boiled out of the oil when the engine gets good and hot. Short journeys in the cold weather will mean that this condensation will show as white stuff, that sometimes looks a bit like mayonaise.

If the suggestion of a long ride doesn't fix it then it could be the start of your head gasket deteriorating. This is not so much fun so I'd suggest starting with a long ride Smile

Milky sight glass was regular on my ZX10, it had regular oil changes but during cold weather it would emulsify and was evident on the sight glass.

Absolutely NOTHING to worry unless you are losing water from the cooling system.

I think the OP would struggle with reading the world emulsification all at once. I can't decipher what he was trying to say, I guess it's a dab of mayonnaise on the sight glass.

It may be condensation, it may be a blown head gasket, or it may be a break in the gasket between the water pump and the side casing, if it's a water cooled bike. My SV650 did that, and it was horrible to diagnose, seeing as the mayonnaise disappeared after a long hot run, then reappeared once the bike had cooled.

probably just condensation as already said, if your collant level drops over a week its head gasket gone.
just sell the bike ASAP if it is a head gasket, you dont want to know how much that will cost to fix Neutral
