right lol.... i was about to do the screw in the vacuum spigot thing so i unscrew the idle screw a bit then the bike ran ok.... but kept cutting out. I adjusted the idle screw and it ran ok, revving ok but when i pulled the clutch and put it into gear one it gave a really really tiny jolt and cut out :S so i put the idle screw in a bit more and when i rev it its stays up for a little bit then comes down. theres still a vacuum spigot on the carb and i havent touched it at all except when i cover it, it make no difference now :s

for those of you who didnt read my last post my bike could just rev up and stay up, and theres a vacuum spigot with no vacuum pipe but no spigot on the fuel tap :s

please i need as much help as i can get i am verry gratefull for evrything on last post cheeres.

Looking at the picture from the other thread, it looks like the airbox is badly connected, possibly you knocked it and there is an air leak there? Just guessing, I'm no expert with carbs.

Don't forget that the MOT is just a test of roadworthiness (i.e. that it goes, stops and has all the legal minimum number of lights), and not of the state of tune. Weird idling doesn't make it unrideable, just a pain in the arse, so I reckon that it should pass MOT; I'm not a pro mechanic though, so YMMV. My Bandit 600 had some horrible idling issues, but the MOT centre didn't even raise an eyebrow.
Also, with MOTs, you're not obliged to get it repaired in the testing centre. If you just pay for the test (which should be about £28.50) and you fail it, you've got a week to sort the problem out, and you can get it re-tested for free, provided it's still inside that week.
Many places will try to overcharge you for he MOT; if they say anything above £30-35, argue. If they won't budge, find out where the council gets its vehicles done: there's one listed for every borough in the country.
Council places are the cheapest to go to (legally, that is), and because they can't fix your bike there, they've got no vested interest in recommending a shitload of expensive parts.

So: provided the engine spins up and down ok, and you can ride it, it should pass fine. Idling doesn't interest MOT bods too much.

You say it's taking a second or two to come back down from high revs: is that from closing the choke, or from twisting the throttle?
If it's from the throttle, then it could be that the return cable might be a bit gunked up.
Also, you said something about there being the wrong carb fitted? that could present some significant problems. Re-jetting can seem like something of a dark art when you first encounter it, and if its a different type/size of carb, then the fuel flow will be altered.
As for its stalling when put in gear: I agree with Vincent on this - it sounds like the gears are just being a bit stubborn from lack of use.
Hope that helps.
