I've been thinking about this for a bit and wondered if anyone else had done anything similar?

Basically with the costs of mobiles being so low at the moment, I thought a crappy payg mobile with only a couple of important numbers taped to the bottom of the seat. This way if I land on my mobile (I keep it in my breast pocket) or it runs out of batteries, or worse in a crash. Might be worth a feed for a phone charger from the battery.

Anyone done this, or have any suggestions?

depends, arctic circle, yes possibly!
Tescos, maybe not

The amount of people around with phones today reduces the need IMHO. Besides if you really "need" to phone an ambulance getting it out from a battered bike whilst in pain wouldn't help.
I'll just keep my normal mobile In my pocket ta.

I brought an old SPV E200 for £5 which I keep under the seat. Its got everything I need, phone, obvious uses, a decent camera, incase I need photos for evidence, a few games to while away the hours waiting for the AA, and proper TOMTOM sat nav for when I get lost.

In practice it would be flat or broke when you needed it.
It would be wise to keep important numbers like breakdown on paper so if your usual phone broke/was not there you have a 2nd chance.

I carry an Boots instant camera under the seat. Only 5 quid but there's nothing like having some photos if you need to prove fault.

I heard something about the police preferring film cameras for evidence purposes...
