Getting my hands on an '09 CBR600RR at 11 am tomorrow Smile Figuring it is gonna feel quite a bit different to my 12 year old GSX600F. Just hope i can make it out of the showroom without signing on the dotted line. Girlfriend would kill me! Shocked
Only booked the test ride to be entered into a draw to win the bike - anyone else doing the same this weekend?

I assume you're doing it with this test ride weekend that Honda are holding.

I filled the form in, and never got a call back. My dad filled the form in, and never got a call back.

John McGuiness is doing signings at my local Honda dealer (Hunts) tomorrow.

Honda are doing a promotional weekend from Today till Monday where you can win what you ride in a prize draw, so I assume 1 of each model nationally

Fill in test ride details online, saying what you want to test ride, someone rings you back and confirms a date and time
Turn up with your gear and license

Go out on the bike for 30 mins to an hour normally

Catches are the excess on the insurance is insane (a grand plus normally)
Also you may need to be over 25, obviously not on restricted license, unless u test something less than 33bhp

Suzuki will be a similar process, some garages are more open to test rides than others. Most main dealers as long as you meet their insurance requirements (age + license) then there is no problem normally

I did talk to a guy and I said I'm 17 on 33bhp and asked to test ride the CBF250 (the shit one with 20hp), he said if they could get one I could test ride it and he would ring me. I never got a phone call Sad

Did the same yesterday on this:

https://www.fireblades.org/motors/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/cbr1000rr-2009-white.jpg

I found the Fireblade to be a thrilling ride, the firmness of the seat and height of the pegs put me into a pretty racy position that reminded me of my try on an 848. Indeed the ease of tipping it in and general eagerness and accuracy of steering maintained that similarity.

That ended when I started playing with the throttle, unlike the punchy delivery of the Ducati, the Honda is all about smooth power. The scary bit is just how much of it there is, it just keeps on coming. I don't think I ever got the throttle to the stop!

Still, after the ride was done it did feel nice to get off the bike and stretch my legs. Somthing I don't need to do after riding my comfy Thundercat Smile

Overall a very enjoyable ride but I don't think the bike is quite right for me!

Just back in from my test ride. This was my demo bike...

https://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g82/darthpalmer/DSC00156.jpg

Admittedly my bike experience is somewhat limited chinese 125 / ER5 on my das / and my current 97 GSX600F but my god that bike felt awesome! Riding position did cause my wrist to ache at first but after half an hour or so and starting to relax a bit more felt much more comfortable. Everything about the bike felt so smooth and light and power would have taken me some getting used to, dont think i got it much over 10k and needle goes to 17!

Got back to the dealer and all the salesmen were dealing with other customers so managed to just have a brief chat with the mechanic dude and get away without any fighting with my conscience as to whether i could afford it or not! One day!! Smile

Getting back on my bike felt awful though - felt like a tractor after the previous hour! Oh well, get in as much as overtime as possible and keep dreaming for now! Mr. Green

went on the blade today and i think im the only person in the world that doesn't like it, i was actually glad to be back on me cbr600, i found the seating was too high and the power delivery was too predictable, kinda took all the fun out of it, where as i can see why a lot of people love it as it does sorta ride itself in a way and the handling is very planted, it just doesn't float my boat, i like suprises Rolling Eyes

Was this at Ecosse Honda?
Just wanting to know if these guys are good to deal with for future reference. I always turn to Shirlaws when I have problems and they are pretty pricey IMO.

Yeah, was Ecosse Honda. Like i said, didn't have too much interaction with the staff. Just a younger lad who was filling in the liability forms (and trying to suss out if you were actually interested in buying rather than just test riding!) and an older guy who i assumed to be from the workshop but they both seemed pleasant enough.

Just got back. Was worth the trip for the free sausage and egg muffin with a cup of tea and a mouse mate Mr. Green

Once again, my dad's RD got surrounded by people. As soon as we got there, former MCN road tester Chris Moss ran over and started talking to my dad before he had turned his engine off Laughing

Nothing there that I could test ride, but I wouldn't have done anyway with the £500 excess. It's just too risky.
Pretty stupid really, you'd think their insurance would cover for any accidents. Great way to run a business Rolling Eyes

To add to the disappointment, John McGuiness never showed up Crying or Very sad I even took a TT T-shirt to get signed Laughing

Yeah, that part did have me slightly worried too. Suppose its one way to ensure that customers treat the bikes very carefully!

You say that, but a guy was saying how he test rode a Transalp, was doing 120mph down the motorway and all the Fireblades shot past him Laughing
