The clear bit round the outside has never been a down side on mine and never affected my riding as far as I'm recall anyways?
A dark visor would look 'cooler' but for what the pinlock does I'm happy to compromise for a clear visor and dark insert.

I had a naughty moment * and bought the dark tinted pinlock racing insert that covers to the top of my clear visor for the days when I know I'll be coming back in the dark and don't want to carry 2 visors. Otherwise I have a normal clear pinlock that I use in both my clear and tinted visor. I notice when I swap between the two but I do get used to it.
* It does say for track use only so I'm guessing I'd be in trouble if I had an accident and it was deemed to be due to my pinlock! ____________________ 'The core of a man's spirit comes from new experiences'
