Right, im going to be respraying my bike over the next couple of weeks and just want some advice on how much paint/primer to get!

I don't want any comments about it looking bad because its from a rattle can/pay a professinal etc..... It's not a very expensive bike!

The bike is 20 years old so the paint needs a good revamp Smile

I'm going to get all my paint from halfords because i can get it cheap.

The bike is a GSXR400 GK73a so not that much plastic to spray!

The bike is going to be sprayed white, with a black mudguard and belly pan!

Should i use grey primer throughout???

I'm going to get a 1 can of filler primer for the bad scratches, then how many normal primer cans for the rest of the fairings????

Then, how many cans of 300ml sprays will i need to spray the bike, and then how many 300ml laquers will i need to clear coat everything??

Hope most of that makes sense Smile lol

im just about to respray my bike too and have asked advice too, if only i had said i dont want any comment about it looking shit etc.... i have people argueing in my threads lol

... anyway back to what you were saying

its gonna be really hard for anyone to judge how much paint your gonna need, it all depends what sort of sprayer you are, wether or not you spray thick layers or loads of thin ones, and again depends on how good you want the finish and how durable you want it

hope this helps but the way im gonna do it is buy a couple of cans of each to start with and see how it goes...

I sprayed my old Speedfight a few years ago.

I did it black and Grey.

Off the top of my head I cant remember exactly how much paint I used. I bought the 300ml cans (I think) from halfords. At the time it was Buy 2 get 1 free.

I recall spending around £40 on paint. @ £5 a tin, + a free one for every one you buy.

So thats 12 cans.

I think I got 3 primer, 3 black, 3 grey, 3 clear coat.

Hope this helps.

hi,
buying rattle cans is gonna cost you around £50.(without lacquer)
1 x tin filler primer
2 or 3 tins grey primer
3 or 4 cans colour.
laquer?
rattle cans dont go far. & at 6 or 7 quid a can, thats a bit steep.(try & get the 500ml or 750 ml cans, but there a bit harder to get, but i can get basic blacks, whites reds etc from my local motor factors for 6 quid!)
i bought all my 2k stuff,primer,basecoat & clearcoat for under £60!
get a loan of a compressor?
cheers,
GAZ

ive just sprayed my baby blade 2day. the only panels i aint sprayed is the sides. one can of primer got 2 or 3 even coats, i used 2 cans of black gloss and a can in a half of laquer. all from my local motor chop. £12 job done! it dont look too bad to be honest, i just took my time. especialy with the laquer! like, i knew what iwas gunna end up with , because at then end of the day no matter how hard you try, a home spray job will always look like a home spray job. but it did turn out better than i expected. it may look a bit shit in some places. but beleive me! theres no way it could look any worse than what it looked like before. i say go for it! they only way you learn is doing it!!!! happy spraying!

hi,
so you got 5 cans for 12 quid?
good deal.
halfrauds are about 6 quid a can i think, then theres wet & dry, filler (if needed)
so min. 30 odd quid.
now that i have the compressor, would never go back to aerosols.
even for the smallest jobs its the airbrush or a tiny touch up brush.(2k)
if your gonna be using aerosols, just key the surface & use plastic primer, if necessary.
cheers,
GAZ
