Well I took the ZX12R out for another ride today, this time with the tyres inflated Rolling Eyes

I knew within a mile I wanted it. Totally difference experience to last week when I was a bit undecided after finding the low speed handling to be a bit heavy which was due to under inflated tyres. Bike feels much easier to ride in town now, and just feels so much more agile.

So went back to the dealers, did a decent deal, and picked it up later this afternoon. I've even got a pass from the mrs to spend a day out on it tomorrow, as long as this nice weather holds Smile

Really pleased with it - only 3900 miles and genuinely mint. Getting new tyres put on it later this week as its still on the original Dunlops. Going for Avon Storms, with a 190 on the rear. The power and torque is just staggering, but its delivered in such a smooth way its actually very easy to control - I dont think you'd ever get completely used to the top end though. Its so much more powerful and aggressive compared to the Blackbird I had.

Heres a few pics of it after bringing it home. Excuse the odd lighting - there was a really wierd sunset here half an hour ago when I got home!

Haha, it's customory to let the kids have a sit on the new bike. They do have all the proper kit though as I take them out every now and again,

As for the avons, they are a great tyre (well, the storms and vipers are). Had them on my zx9 and blackbird. They also last resonably well on the 12 apparently

Blackbirds are very smooth and civilised. ZX12-R is like trying to ride a tiger with a thorn in it's arse when you give it proper stick. Hasn't the arm-tearing mid-range grunt of your busa but it does have more power and better brakes too.

Pretty much this.

The Blackbird was a great bike, but almost too good. In typical Honda fashion they make it so 'nice' that they engineer the soul out of it. Its fast, but very predictable and a little dull, whereas the 12 is just as friendly low down, but then its just utterly, ridiculously powerful and aggressive at the top end.

The handling is a lot better on the 12, probably due to being a fair bit lighter (it weighs the same as a VFR800 rather than the Blackbird) Its a typical kwak I suppose, but the build quality is a lot better than other Kwaks I've had, probably because it was their flagship model.

Basically I think you tend to build an affinity with a manufacturer, and for me Kawasaki manages to produce bikes that are just as reliable, but with a bit of a rough edge and attitude.

Heres a pic of the Blackbird I had:

Brakes isnt a hard one thought eh geri!! I only asked because when I was riding CBR6's a good mate had one and swore by it. I almost bought one over the busa but as soon as I got mine and parked it next to a blackbird I knew I'd made the right choice as the bird looked every year of its age in comparison! Still curious though! Thumbs Up

As I was riding 6's the blackbird was a kind of legend and the bloke from work who had one thought it was awesome. Then he rode a busa and wanted one becuase it was brutal in comparison. Im just curious as to how different they are!

Yeah the 'busa is brutal, but the 12R is manic. That's the difference between torque and BHP. If I had a choice to take one on a trackday I'd take the 12R, but I wouldn't swap my 'busa for one - no way.

Both the 12r and the Busa are definitely bikes I would love to own one day. Both have a nice appeal about them. I enjoy going on youtube and looking at Busa's and 12r vs cars on the straights. Amazing. The adrenaline from watching them beat cars makes me crave to own atleast one, one day.

Thumbs up for both 12r and Busa from me even though I'm a noob. Thumbs Up

Hi Rob, yeah, sadly so. I dont have a garage at the moment so the practicality of keeping 2 bikes meant it went in part ex. The plan is though to get another one later in the year when I move house and get a garage back again, then the Versys will be my winter/all round bike and the 12 will just be used on sunny days and faster touring.

I really wasnt lookign to change the Versys as in all honesty its the best allrounder I've owned, but the 12 has always been a dream bike and they just dont appear very often in this condition and mileage, so decided to go for it now, then get another V in 6 months or so,.

Just got back from a 200 mile ride on it today. Bike is awesome - no other word. Did the Yorkshire TT (Helmsley to Stokesly) then over to Whitby and back over the moors and down to Squires. The continuos and never ending drive from the thing is unreal. Even at over 100, crack the throttle and it accelerates like a normal bike does from 0.

Handles really well too - obviously its no GSXR750, but its a hell of a lot better than the Blackbird.

Loads of bikes seem to have come back out on the roads today - silly season is here again Smile
