Last year I went to the black sea and back, and had a great time.

This year I can only take holiday in two week periods, I'm not sure where to go. I'm not really interested in Fance, Spain or italy and wondered how easy/difficult it might be to make Tailin/Riga and back in that time.

Any thoughts

You can make Estonia and back easy in 2weeks. I'm limited to 2 weeks per trip really this year as want to split my holiday and was hoping to make it down to Greece and up into Romania and back in one trip, aslong as you get the mileage done when it needs doing you can save enough days to take your time through the interesting bits.

Just don't make firm and unalterable plans to get somewhere, if you have a change of heart or mind at any point then adapt your route and plan to suit to avoid killing yourself trying to keep to a schedule you made using google maps at home. Pick a general area and go, make the rest up along the way.

I've had the same problems, what you have to do is write off day 1 and the last day as BIG days , ie leave the night before take the last ferry/Eurostar and ride on the autoroute, its costly in tolls about 10Euro for every 100 miles, but buys you time. Also try leave friday evening to buy you an extra weekend thus you get 16 days and can use them as transit days.

Dodger on here managed to get from the South of France to Liverpool in 24hours day. I managed from the Boug en bresse to paris to calais to dover to manchester in 24 hours.

On the autoroutes as they are sign posted and reasonably straight and have plenty of petrol you can cover 100s of miles reasonably quickly.

Be sure to stop at the rest stops and kip for 20 minutes. Just don't go too many miles as you may fall asleep on bike and the autoroute eats your tyres like no tommorow also.

Also fit a higher screen on the geeper , and if you want to put less strain on it carry a spare C&S kit for high speed motorway touring so it runs at lower RPM hence saving fuel , and change them over when you get to the places you want to ride like the wind.

I'm not worried about the miles.

I rode from the black sea in Romania through Hungry to Zagreb non-stop (with breaks of course) during my last tour.

I was still in Split Croatia just under two days before my ferry left dover for calais.

The miles don't scare me, i was just wondering if it is reasonable.

Having checked the route, it looks very boring indeed. With most of it through Northern Germany.

I might change my plans and visit St Tropez, Cannes and see whats around that way, Corsica?

Cannes and Nice are excellent , you hit the N85 and N202 on the way both excellent routes.

I'd of thought similar, while the only non autobahn parts of Germany I rode through was part of the Black Forest it was nothing special, I think if you are riding down near the Alps then it's probably quite nice but otherwise I'm not convinced, and Poland is flat as a pancake unless your right on the southern borders, the Polish guys at work insist it is nice in places so if you look hard enough i'm sure there's something to see other than cabbage fields. No idea on the Baltic countries, other than they're also flat.

Do the triangle route then , France Big day , till you get to the Spanish border where you can muck about for days in the mountain regions, then head towards Montpelier and along the coast then north to the Milau bridge.

You can head to Grand Canyon near Castellane , do the N85 , the N202 triangle for a bit , go up towards Grenoble and to the east there are tons of mountainous bits, cross around to Turin and its flat until you get to the other side of Italy for the Dolomites, which is twisty mountain stuff. Turn back head into Switzerland with its enourmous number of passes, including that one TIm did on push bike and took him hours. From Switzerland you can utterly burn the bike on the free autobahn out to a port to come home.

That route should satisfy you.

Its a shame you don't have a bit longer or you could go Morocco.

Home - Plymouth ~ Not sure
Plymouth-Santander ferry ~ 18 hours
Santander- Algecrias ~ 11 hours
Algecrias- Ceuta ~ Not sure around 3-4 hours?

Hello Morocco

So depending on ferry times (the Plymouth Santander one is slightly odd times) and the how much you want to do in a day it could be do-abe. Although not that exciting through Spain and less time in Morocco...
