Hi all
After deciding to keep my bike and insuring it again i had a blast last saturday on it lol 20min ride was 1.5 hours, anyway the chen shin shit needs to go, talk about twitchy on anything bar dry tarmac.
Has anyone used this firm before as they seem to be the cheapest for a set of sportys.

https://www.nationalbiketyres.co.uk/tyres/michelin-tyres/pilot-sporty/cat_129.html

Oh and can i use Dot 5.1 for replacement brake fluid as it has been in my garage about 6 months?.

Thnx for your help

It's a Pilot Sport, that's a typo.

They are good tyres to be honest, pretty soft and the design has been superceded by the Pilot Power 2CT, but they are still bloody good. Thumbs Up

Pirelli City Demons are also miles above the nylon OEM tyres too, haven't had much trouble with them for the last 11'000 miles. I might try a set of Pilot Sportys next time I change tyres though.

I put Pilot Sporty tyres on my YBR and they were fantastic. Changed the bike after only about 1,000 miles on them though so can't comment on tyre life.

The R125 comes with them as standard. The guy who owns the one I'm putting a turbo on has no problem getting his knee down with them. Good tyres for the small bike IMO.

I had these on my YBR as well, £60 ish quid delivered and they lasted me 7000 miles before I sold the bike, and even then the rear had a couple thousand more in it before it needed changing (rear was starting to square off, but front was still fine)

tempted to do the same on mine, current tyres are horrendous.

Anyone know if i can fit them myself and how easy it is? bike shop is wanting __£25__ PER TYRE to fit some that i didn't buy from them... stupidly insane.

Your putting a turbo on an R125? why not just fix a rs125 engine in it cheaper and probably more reliable.

I got a set of tyre irons for about £7 from the internet, can't remember exactly where. The first tyre took about 40 minutes to change, the second about 15 once I knew what I was doing. It's pretty straight forward, you can find all you need to know on google and youtube. Also, you can break the bead on a YBR with your foot so don't worry about that bit.

I get mine on Tuesday, £120 fitted and balanced etc.. sooner spend the bit extra and get them to supply and fit them, instead of me finding a way to get them 10 miles on the bike to the shop.

Hope these make a difference, anyone have any experiences with them being good?

Wrong on both counts I'm afraid. R125 engines are 350-400 quid buy it now on ebay with just a couple of thousand miles on them, try finding a RS125 low-miles engine for that - I saw one sell for £500 with 1100 miles on it.

The R125 internals are very nice - roller cam followers etc. As for reliability, well people like to quote '33HP' for de-restricted strokers but I'll bet you won't find many if any that make that at the wheel and none that will do it reliably or for extended labour. Fitting a turbo on a 4-stroke means you keep the stock state of tune until you need the extra power and is even easier on the engine if you drop the compression a bit. Oh and it should make 40hp if not more.

An turbo'd R125? 40bhp+? ....

Pics! Shocked Sounds sweet...

Regards to the DOT 5.1 brake fluid;
From what i gather, you absolutely MUST NOT use DOT 5 in a brake system that has used anything else. DOT 5.1 however is safe to use instead of DOT 4 (Or so says google, don't take my wor for it, go look yourself!).

However there is also something else important to consider; Is the container with the brake fluid still brand new / sealed? If not, then i wouldn't use it. Brake fluid is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture, making it work less effectively. Have ready in many a place to always use fluid from a freshly opened container. No doubt someone will soon come along and say that i'm totally wrong an talking bollocks. Laughing

It'd make 40 if it were my engine to risk, can't speak for the owner though. Already got the turbo, just waiting for a wastegate and some time to fit it all up. Shouldn't be hard to do and easy to tune too with a little trick I know. I'll post details when it gets underway properly.

Ideally I would have liked to find a Kubota turbo but I had to settle for a smart car one. I'm looking to modify the turbine A/R to help it spool.

That actually sounds awesome, how much would all the extra kit be? 40 bhp sounds like a hell of alot thats well over doubling the power.
