Help me out guys, racking my brains for the guys name, ran along side jumped on side saddle and shot away crouched on the peg before putting his leg over,

That'd be my on my zx9 every time I leave the heated grips on Razz.

And, as above, that was the standard technique... presumably so you could get off and run again if it didn't start.

Aye, Hailwoods "crossed legs" technique was famous in his day. He wouldn't actually get on the bike properly until he had hooked second, hopefully leaving him in the lead.

Everyone else was busy swinging their leg over their bikes while he was accelerating hell-for-leather into the first corner.
