Taken by a 1473 megapixel camera as a record of everybody who was there in the event of something going wrong.

Are you on an Irish bike forum by any chance? we where also discussing this. And spotted a few weird things. Like the hat to the left of the photo with no body or the guy from poltergeist in there.

I made this Gigapan image from the north press platform during President Obama's inaugural address at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC on January 20, 2009. It's made up of 220 images and the final image size is 59,783 X 24,658 pixels or 1,474 megapixels.

There are a few known stitching errors in the image. A NEW VERSION of the photo with all of the stitching errors corrected can be seen here:

That's the technology. Just stick your camera on it and it automatically moves it and takes pictures, then stitches them together.
