First bike (finished but not totally back together) and my first helmet, which I'm going to re-do the number 5 in a different style before final clear.

The bike was done with Auto Air. the helmet with E'tac Smile

thanks mate. I am doing actually. got a couple of helmets lined up so this one was a practice on my dad's old lid.
just to check the compatibility of the new paints I'm using now with the base and clearcoats and they went down well Smile

the bike belongs to a mate and he donated it to practice on. it was only rattle can black to start with so he wasn't bothered. I learnt a lot form doing that. and from seeing that I've been asked to do a GSR750 which will be cool to do.

been mainly doing PC cases, RC cars and XBOX front apart from that but it's all good practice and had helped pay for more gear Very Happy

That looks amazing! and I'm not normally a fan of airbrushing. Is it all done free hand?

thanks dude Smile

the helmet was all freehand (so far) when I re-do the 5 I'll make a stencil cos I want it to end up looking like rusted metal panels so will need a hard edge to it.

the the bike was also freehand, apart from some of the harder edges on the curves were I used a lose freehand shield.

I really enjoyed doing this kinda flowing organic bone and fire. can just sit there for hours just making it up as you go along rather than having to keep looking at a reference.

I think that is stunning work Very Happy
I'm not keen on the helmet at all, the paint looks good but to me the design looks bland and I'm a freak when it comes to symetry.
The bike sure is something though, I would'nt hesitate to bring my projects to you.

Airbrushing is definetly something I'd like to give a try, I'm not overly keen on it but in the right places it's really cool.

Nice work especially mostly being freehand
Where did you buy your paints from then, as auto air is a US brand if i remember, and ive never heard of E'tac in the uk either.
And what is your tools of choice, what airbrush?

thanks guys. been spraying on and off for a couple of years now n just feel like I'm getting to grips with it.

plenty of online UK shops stock Auto Air. I'm mainly using it for backgrounds and bigger areas tho but it can be quite problematic really, their new Auto Borne range is a lot better but contains solvents and so more ventilation is needed. On the helmet the black background is Auto Borne black and it went down nice.

E'tac is a wonderful paint. very flexable. can be used on anything from metal through to t-shirts and even used for pinstriping.
great for detail (far better than auto air imo) but it's quite expensive.
I tend to use the Private stock range but it has quite a rubbery feel to it so I mix it with EFX reducer which gives it a dryer finish before putting down the clear coat.
I get it from aerart.co.uk

as for other equipment I use Iwata HP-CS and Grex Genesis XN airbrushes. I did both jobs above with the Iwata.

I was looking into starting spraying. I am always disheartened by other peoples art skills as my artyness is here and there (one year it is good, next it is shite). Do you find shading easier with a compressor and airbrush?
What sort of area do you work in? Garage? Shed?
Have you ever done a rattlecan job (before you got the compressor)?

From then on, I and the bicycle feelings deeper.

When it's cold (like at the moment) I tend to work in my spare room which I've set up with extra lighting and plenty of ventilation. Temperature can be a big problem. if it's too cold or too hot it can really mess things up. so although I did do some of the bike parts in the garage (sanding and undercoating) the airbrush work and clear was done in my warm paint room.

I have sometimes used rattle cans for the base coats. But if you're going to use rattle cans and want to clear over it stay away from enamel based stuff like Plasti-Kote or all your work could crack.

as for shading, well a dual action airbrush with transparent paints is far easier than trying to do it with a rattle can any day. You just need to spend time learning a bit of control.

Is that the bandit 600 mentioned in your sig? depends on the design you want really and how detailed it was, but for that kinda bike, prep, base coat, art work and clear coat you'd be looking at roughly £250-£300, which is dirt cheap, but I'm keeping prices low till I've built up more of a rep and portfolio Wink
Of course it also depends if you live anywhere near East Yorkshire UK or are happy to post the parts.
I'm going to be adding rough prices to my site soon (which is in my sig)

Triumph TT600? you mean wrapping round the whole of the front fairing??... maybe some rips and burn marks in the ends from the speed?? Very Happy
If that's the right bike and the sort of design you meant (which I think would look cool!) then it would be quite a bit of work so about £180

thanks a lot guys Very Happy
I studied advanced art and design a long long time a go. I think half the work is finding a medium you click with. Almost sold all my airbrush gear last year. so glad I bought some automotive paints to give it one last go! lol

depends how much work the design is.. I start at £70 up to about £150 for something complex.

doing a giger piece on a guitar this weekend then got another helmet to do but this time with a Japanese tattoo theme in Kawasaki green and black.. need to find out how to write Ninja in Kanji. I'll post pics when it's done Smile
