Hi!
Im tidying up a crash damaged NC23 I bought, please help if you can? most of the damage is cosmetic, although there is a snapped exhaust stud the previous owner has began to drill out, is this difficult to finish off? I guess its just a case of getting a couple of very sharp HSS drill bits and taking my time doing it really carefully?
I have one other main question though really at this stage. Does anyone know if the NC23 and NC29 fuel tanks are the same? they look almost identical in pictures, but Im really not sure. The tank that came with my bike has a huge dent in it and NC29 tanks tend to pop up on ebay a lot more frequently and generally at a lower price then the NC23s.

The plans really for the bike are to tidy up the damaged fairings as best I can, then matt black the lot (or maybe experiment with gloss black, but from experience it seems much easier to get a decentish finish in matt black then gloss). Im on a rather tight budget so there seems no point in spending big bucks on an old cheap bike cosmetically anyway. Since I have NC29 wheels on it that are nicely powder coated white I'l get a white sticker kit from ebay and have all the transfers white, then just have a ball on the bike, greater improve my riding skills, then either give it the full resto treatment, or move on up to a 600.

Heres a picture of it with old fairings thrown on for the photo:

You could always make it fit, as long as the spine of the frame fits, you could take the fixings off the old tank and weld them onto the new one.

Looks like its gonna ba a bit of a project, have you considered doing a 600cc special with it? Apparently the 23 is an easier conversion than the 29.

I did notice someone has fitted nc29 wheels to it, much nicer looking wheels imo.

450 quid, apart from the exhaust stud that needs doing im part way through stripping and cleaning the carbs. There is a receipt that came with the bike for an expensive service that had been done on it less than 800km before the crash, things like the brake pads, chain and sprockets are almost brand new, the tyres etc are the same. The bike does run, but without the exhaust and rad fitted I darent run it for to long (for obvious reasons, I dont want the valves to blow out or it to over heat).
It has Beet racing rearsets and goodridge braided lines.
Once I have the carbs finished (one of the jets snapped, I have a replacement on order, hence why the work on the carbs is currently halted), the exhaust fitted back on, and cleaned and rebled the brakes, it should be mechanically ready for an mot, its just the damn fairings that I need to sort out.
Sorry the rothmans paint job has definetely seen better days, and I cant afford to get it back to that at this stage. If it sails through the mot I may consider it.
Doing a 600cc special is a bit too challenging atm and as the mechanical side seems to be fine its hardly worth doing.
Im building a Hayabusa powered Hillman Imp as on 'on the side project' with no deadline though.
Cheers
Adrian

Ok, Iv got a standard exhaust silencer and had the stud done, the carbs and exhaust are back on and its a runner! thats a releif.
Unfortunately the fairing panels are well beyond repair, so there wont be a painting over of the rothmans paint job, more like a slinging the lot into a skip Sad
However, I sadly blew up this bike the other day, the top and bottom end are gone, the exhaust has rusted through, the tank leaks and the forks are shot so im afraid the bikes gotta be broken or scrapped. Whilst moving stuff around I accidently dropped the rear fairing on the bare CBR and it fitted perfectly which gave me an idea.....
Im sure its possible to work it out!

Heres the bike that died:

If you read what it says, the Cagiva has died Sad

The fairings off the Cagiva fit the CBR so he is experimenting.

Anyone know the answer to these few problems I have at the moment?

None of the fairings were on when I got the bike, and the fuse box looks like it should be mounted somewhere at the front (its to the left of the headlights hanging down atm when you sit on the bike) I cant find where it should be attached, anyone know?

Also my clutch cover has a slight crack from the accident the bike was in and the centre bolt/plug has been rounded out slightly, I'v located a replacement cover but the guy says his plug is also beginning to round out. What is this plug for and does it matter massively?

Cheers
Adrian

Yep your fuse box attaches to the fairing on the left inner side.

The center bolt plug? are you talking about the one right in the middle of the cover by the dipstick?

Cheers for your responses, and thanks faith183uk for offering to sell me your tank but I came across a bargain the other day while on the phone to a breakers. Heres what Im getting:
-a full fairing set including all panels and screen in Rothmans colours (original parts)
-a tank (in the black and grey colours, the same as the other NC23 in show and tell atm)
-a right clip on
-a hugger
all for a very very good price.

Does anyone know roughly how much I could get the tank painted in Rothmans colours for?

The other parts I'v received lately are a new piston and seal kit for my rear brake, which I have fitted and bled. A replacement clutch cover (this is the one with the slightly rounded bolt, but it is still useable and the cover is mint! the bolt I meant was right in the middle beneath 'HONDA', Iv actually repainted this part of the casing black and polished off the lines across it and Honda so that all stands out silver, Its still a work in progress, but I'l get some pictures of it when done comparing it to the clutch cover I take off.
The last thing I need is a chain guard for an MOT, I think Iv located one, but the seller hasn't got back to me Confused

So since Im getting this full fairing set, I dont plan on using the cagiva body kit (which is a shame coz it will have certainly been different, the front fairing, screen, sides and rear piece almost fit straight on).
If anyone is interested in making an offer for the Cagiva then go ahead, altho please dont make a silly offer, as I am happy to keep it in my garage untill I have time to rebuild the engine.

Cheers,
Adrian

Parts arrived today!!!
Heres the parcel that came:

https://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z115/adrianwest1989/My%20bike/my%20cbr/DSCN2113.jpg

and the contents:

https://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z115/adrianwest1989/My%20bike/my%20cbr/DSCN2115.jpg

Since then Iv fitted the top fairing, tail fairings, mirrors, air ducts (attached the fuse box, its obvious where to put it!) changed the right clip on and done a few other things

Heres some pics, with a new Rothmans body kit:

https://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z115/adrianwest1989/My%20bike/my%20cbr/DSCN2116.jpg

https://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z115/adrianwest1989/My%20bike/my%20cbr/DSCN2117.jpg

Iv got a replacement tank in black, does anyone know where I could get this painted the same as the old? (2 colours, a few transfers and a line of gold and red around it?)

Or shall I just get the rust off the old one, touch up the bare metal in blue, flog the black tank and just keep the dented one? The bikes not mint, has cost me well under 800quid, so is it worth spending loads on a mint tank if the fairings are scruffy?
What do you guys think??

Cheers
Adrian

Haha just rode the bike round the block to see if the speedo would work, jesus christ its quick!!!!!
Such a step up from my 125!!
What a noise as well!!

Haha kept changing up instead of down and down instead of up though because of the racing style gear set up, sooo dodgey lol

The bad news is the speedo doesnt work Sad It appears Im missing a small piece/gear behind the sprocket cover which enables the cable to turn. Damn thats another 8 quid plus another 3 days till it gets delivered Sad

Anyone got one lying around????

Cheers

Collected the engine cover gasket and speedo drive bush today, Removed the fairings ready to change engine cover and sort out the speedo, anyway it started to pour with fucking rain, then I dropped the fucking bike moving it, cracked my top fairing and broke the brake lever clean off really really pissed off, its just one thing after another. I order one part, when that arrives and I fit it, something else bloody breaks. I cant beleive how bad my luck is sometimes
