...you've WD40'd, taken off the fairing around it to get complete back and front access to it... but STILL cant get the nut off to remove the fairing?

NSR 125 R1 2001, left hand bottom fairing under the left front indicator Evil or Very Mad

Is it rotating when you undo it? , ie the brass nut (usually covered in rubber) has seized? , try some pentrating oil then mole grips on the brass bit (hard as the brass bit is completely round) while undoing the fairing bolt.

If it doesn't come out you get a nut spliter thing for £5 and split the brass thing.

If its in a place where you can't get a nut splitter in like my Africa on its screen bolts I sawed the off, but in doing so generated so much heat it melted the fairing slightly.

It's not moving at all... I've spent so much time on that single thing it started to stress me out Evil or Very Mad I WD40'd both the front and back of the bolt/nut and used pliers to try and undo it by gripping the body of the bolt but no luck... the head sinks into the fairing slightly so I cant saw it Sad

I know about melting plastic, I had a screw that was refusing to come out of the fairing before. It had rounded of completely so I took a drill to it to drill out the head and it melted the plastic... at least it's off now! Ijust have to get a bolt with a bigger head to attach the fairing back on...

I cant believe I havent even managed to get the fairing off in the 3 months I've had the bike... none of the bolts are copper greased and were overly tightened... Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

hi,
i removed a fairing bolt from a cbr the other day.
was seized pretty solid.
got out the dremel & smallest cutting disc.
making sure i didnt cut the plastic, i cut a slot in bolt head & removed the offending bolt with a huge, flat bladed screwdriver.
(maybe the vibrations off the dremel loosened it slightly, but it slackened with a satisfying "crack".
if that hadnt worked, i was going to grind the head of the bolt off, with the pointy grinding stone attachment, remove the fairing & thenremove the leftover bolt stub by cutting a slot in it & using the screwdriver, or molegrips.
worked for me numerous times.
if your going to do this, surround the area with masking tape, so the sparks dont mark the paintwork.
cheers,
GAZ
