What's your thoughts?

Last year, I absolutely hated the speedo on my then new ER6.
I was always looking down at the speedo, trying to do correct speeds etc. It looked like something off a Honda Civic or Nightrider.

And now after bringing my Z750 out of hibernation, I've gone off the analogue speedo, it takes too long to work out the speed, especially when your giving it some.

I also like the idea on the ER, is that when I go to the content, a couple of button clicks and my clocks are in Km/h.

As long as the refresh rate is high i quite like them. But i'd still prefer a set of analogues, preferably VW red on blue style.

I much prefer digital speedos. Much easier to read! Also stops you trying to get the needle all the way round!! Wink

Easier to see the speed with just a quick glance with the analogue speedo IMO.

Easier, but not necessarily better.

I used to enjoy spinning needles.

Apparently, my XR will do 90mph.

Probably the biggest advantage. Although I get out of this by having a km/h clock which has been converted to mph, so the quickest I ever see is 110 (on a 3 lane private down hill drag strip near me)

Edit:

Although I have never had a digital speedo

Digital might be necessary to make a lighter meter unit for SS, I like digital one on SS but don't want it on my W650.

I really like the analogue speedo on my bike. Black dials, green markings and a red needle. Lovely Smile

Don't know if I could get used to a digital display, although to be fair, I've never used one. I like seeing the needle whizz up and own Razz

Hi

Prefere analog clocks. Not keen on digital ones. Fine if you want an exact readout of an inaccurate speedo, but useless to glance at.

All the bst

I use a Bicycle speedo on the pit bike. It seems pretty accurate. I can convert it to KPH in a few clicks. Its easy to read and has a fairly quick refresh rate.

It also displays the speed to 2 decimal places.

Fastest I've had it indicate is 72.25mph Laughing

Analogue is a bit dated now IMO. The speedo cable is something else to have to re-route around your bars. When instead it could just be a thin speaker-wire type lead you need to run to the forks for a digi one.

Hi

No reason a normal analog speedo cannot just use a wire. car ones have for the last 25+ years.

All the best

i prefer analouge. you can just glance down at it to know what your general speed is. without having to read it on a digital one.
also, the digital one, I'd be too fixated with keeping it dead on that speed limit. if i go over by 1mph ill off the throttle until i can get it back down again. where as out the corner of my eye, I can notice if the needle moves between 2 points.
ie. say I'm going 40mph. I'll notice out the corner of my eye if it goes to 42/43mph.

I love analog speedos and have had both types for a fair period each. I like the clock to look modern though but I think it's just seeing the needle fly past the numbers as you accelerate hard. Very Happy

Yeah they are awful! The lag is so bad. Nothing better than bouncing the revs up and down at the lights occationally. Very Happy

Analogue for me! I've not had any contrast issues with digital speedos, but i DO wash my bike a LOT! Thank god I don't have an aprilia. Its nice to know the position of the speedo needle rising in sync with the revs!
