hi,
are you planning on removing the airbox completely?
if you are, you'll just need to measure the carb mouth & get a conical mesh filter to fit.
S & B or K & N do various sizes.
done this with a few chinese bikes that have the 156FMI engine (the cg clone) including a skyjet which iirc is pretty much the same bike as yours.
depending on what carbs fitted, might be an idea to fit a mikuni 28-30mm carb or just stick a bigger main jet in!
either way, its gonna be a fair bit louder & may well release a wee bit more power.
id expect some running issues though, maybe need to re-jet?
cheers,
GAZ

Whilst the bike physically looks alike to the CBR125, it has a totally different engine.

hi,
you sure?
doesnt it say 156FMI or 157FMI or something similar on the engine casing?
it it does, its the usual cg clone, im afraid.
bike shares a lot of the plastics etc of the cbr, but engine & gearbox are of the cheaper variety.
important bit is the carb, depending on whats fitted (seen at least 4 different makes/models fitted to these bikes) you might get away with just a bigger main jet & open air filter.
most of these carbs are set up to run really rich.(especially the ones with the weird enrichment pump thing)
the guys over on the chinese bike forum are helpfull for this kind of stuff.
theres at least one member who has an ebay shop selling the correct jets/filters.
cheers,
GAZ

Changing the air filter may mean you HAVE to change the jet, more air means you may need more fuel to keep a good mixture.

There is a ratio/comon rule for how biggger you need to go with the jet depending on the size of your carb.
But i dont know to be honest but somebody may know

Hi,
contact Gareth (aka shy on the chinesebikeforum) at www.xianracer.com
he'll sell you the filter & the correct jet.
hes's cheaper than most places & actually knows what hes talking about, having owned & tuned/modified umpteen chinese bikes.
size of jet depends on the carb thats fitted (seen these bikes come with all sorts of different carbs fitted!)
but the usual upgrade is either a 1.15mm main jet ( fitted to the existing carb, depending on the make) & 42mm conical mesh "open" air filter(either on its own or fitted inside the existing airbox, with the lid & internals removed)
or 29/30mm mikuni carb, fitted with the correct main jet & open filter.
cheers,
GAZ

Ah, I see.

Contrary to popular belief, the XR125 doesn't use the same engine as the CBR125. I've read it in a few places myself, and it's utter twaddle. The XR is aircooled and the CBR is watercooled. I think they do share te same gearbox internals though. However, that is totally irrelevant to your question.

If it's an XR clone, then i would think an XR's air filter would fit. Alot chinese clones do use the CG125 lump though, as already said by someone else.
