How many miles is it realistic to travel per day? , I'm hitting visa obstacles big ones with regards to Russia.
Google maps won't tell me a distance but there is a section twice as long as the UK top to bottom which needs to be transited maybe as much as 2600km , recent trips out there have indicated that it is deep gravel track for 2000km.
What is a realistic mileage for gravel riding? 900 miles in 24 hours is easy on tarmac on deep gravel though is a different story...
I think I might have to be playing a game of beat the russian visa thing, the issue is I don't want a smegging Russian criminal record which they give you if you overstay your visa, a russian criminal record means no more future visas EVER which is a bit of a dampner and thus there may well have to be a few days of hard gravel track riding.
Also how bad will the MPG be on deep gravel tracks? , the XT has a 23 litre tank and on tarmac a theoretical range of 303 miles. But I know that this will fall on gravel tracks.
Any thoughts?
Thanks. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. In the end, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching. |

l was managing to cruise at around 70MPH on long 50+ mile sand/gravel tracks and roads in Scandinavia/eastern Europe with not much difference in MPG, the only big issue is tyre life riding on gravel eats the tread away very quickly. ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

Hmm interesting , on another note I have found a soft sand/gravel track which turns into deep boggy mud to go through too...
On that note what would be a safeish method to practice? , there is a huge spoil tip nearby reckon a few weeks riding up and around that (its all gravel) will give me some decent prep? (note I have little off road experience but 4 sets of knobblie tyres will be bought on this trip to ensure I have good off road performance). I have however ridden a CBR on ice and didn't drop it. Just have to remember to stick me leg out on corners I suppose. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die.
