evening all.
i will soon be looking for a new bike, got my test on friday.
and i would love another supermoto, but the main thing i was worrying about was the top speed.
all of my friends have sports bikes and i was thinking is we decided to go on a long motorway ride, to donnington or what not, then motorway speeds would be almost topped out on a drz and not healthy to hold at that sort of speed. am i worrying about this too much or should i just buggar it and buy one.
so basically what does the drz top out, and do you other supermoto riders find top end speed a problem?
Thanks
Joe

Motorway is a problem. If you've got a bit of cash to spend, I'd recommend looking at the Husky SM610. This has a wide ratio gearbox which means that with first the same as first gear on a DR (remember the SM has more power to start with), top gear would top out at a theoretical 126mph or something. This means you can reasonably cruise at highish speeds, though not up to sports bikes that cruise well above the ton, of course.
Suspension is also better too.

The DRZ-SM is well over priced and under specced (considering what else is available) to my mind, due to it's relative newness.

id say get a ccm 404 supermoto'd over a drz sm.. better components (sus etc) Thumbs Up

my mates drz used to top out at 60 but thats cos it was geared for out and out acceleration.. if you got a drz sm id fit the biggest front sprocket and the smallest rear you can..

And you get the slightly better version of the DRZ engine too.
I quite like(d) my CCM - great town bike, capable on trails and fun in the twisties with supermoto wheels.

im looking to get a supermoto, in the not too distant future,

looking at the ccm 644 supermoto, and the husqvarna 610 sm,

not sure which will be more reliable, and what would be a better buy?

i know the ccm has a suzuki engine,

any reviews or any good advice?

The CCM is relatively slow and heavy compared to the Husky.
Reliability should be a bit up, but there are some concerns on the DR lump.

What's your budget?

I would definitely be looking at a late as poss model (one with the radial brakes) Husky SM610, were it me.
Possibly a KTM LC4 SMC too.

Do you want to do off-road too?

Yea, then I'd definitely be going for the SM610 or a KTM 625 SMC for, to my mind, the best mix of light weight, reliability and power.
You can get lighter, but they're less reliable - possibly get more powerful, but the same again. More reliable of course looses out on power, weight or often both.
Oh, the BMW G650XMoto might be worth considering if you can handle the looks - believe they were selling them off new at £4k for a bit a while ago, so might be some deals about.

I know of a 57 plate KTM 425(?) 'Chrome Killer' supermoto for sale in Leeds for £1800. A friend got it thrown in when he bought a house, and now he wants to sell it.

I've only got decent experience with the 690, as I have one... it's a bit more refined that the 640s in a few ways.
I would be definitely going for the SMC versions of the 640, as otherwise you're starting to get to the point that weight is similar to, say, a lightened SV650.

The 640s should be fairly decent all-round bikes; if I remember the later ones got their service intervals upped to 3000 miles (as the 690 is) from 1500.
