anyone fit their own chains?
if so anyone got any tools they would recommend. want to learn how to change my own chains as i prefer doing my own work on a bike as i don't always know what the shops get up to. its not that i don't trust them its the fact that this is a relatively simple job that will need to be done many times on a bike.

For riveted chains you need a tool to do it. Good examples can cost up to £100.

The cheaper ones can handle hollow pin links but struggle with solid ones.

don't like the idea of a split links. not had much luck with them in past on my push bikes. i'll never buy a chain with a split link on it again.

Hi

For soft rivit links it will be OK (the ones with a dimple on the end of the pins on the rivit link). For hard links it will be pretty useless.

All the best

Keith

Of course, with many bikes you may just find it easier to buy an endless chain, and take the swingarm off to fit it. Then you can grease and swingarms and rear suspensions bushes and bearings while you're at it.

Hi

This one

But you will need a bit hammer.

Or just make sure you buy a chain with a soft link.

All the best

Keith
