back brake lever sticking

Hi Guys,

I’m having problems with the back brake on my Hyosung GT125R. I use it everyday for commuting and yesterday, on the way to work, I applied the back brake and the lever stayed down after releasing. This caused me to slow to a near stop on a busy road. The brake lever works the back brake as it should (if I force it up it releases, push it down it grips) but it stays where it stays when pushed down. It doesn’t spring back up like it should. There is a small bit of rust on one of the pivots but they still move freely. I have checked the spring, cleaned it with a brush and lots of WD40 but that looks ok. I have also cleaned the pivots in that area.

Would the problem be within the calliper, hoses or likely to be where the brake lever is?

I have read that it could be a simple clean up inside the calliper. Does this sound right? If it is, does anyone know any step by step guides on doing this that a complete novice can follow with limited tools?

Alternatively, if it is around the lever area, how would I rectify?

I would still take the pivot apart and give it a good clean. The other likely place for sticking is in the master cylinder, sometimes water can get in and corrode the piston or bore.

The fact that it releases when you pull the lever up suggests that its not the caliper at fault. Personally I think its the pivot.
