Alright guys, this isnt really a huge problem, but my bike lately feels like its lost a little bit of power, and a little bit of top end.

My friend said that i need to replace my top end bearing, and while im at it i may aswell do piston rings too. But i cant find any where locally to get the parts.

The bike seems to accelerate just that little bit slower and seems to only just make it to 70, where as before it was making 75 no problem.

Also my engine used to sound throaty and had a little bit of rattling, where as now the engine actually sounds smoother and nicer.

No idea here.

But i have a 03 plate Nsr 125 foxeye, and it has NOT been derestricted yet.

Peace Karma

Hmm, i thought top ends were every 8k or so on the NSR. I would look at decoking the exhaust first and see if it helps (since it's cheaper and easier)

hey all, i've got this same problem atm. Doesn't seem to pull like it used to and can only reach 70 max. Less than 3500 miles on the clock and had the pistons changed 500 miles ago. Thought it was the chain as that was really slack but I got that tightened today but it hasn't really improved acceleration or top end. I also noticed it sounding different this afternoon.
What does de coking the exhaust mean and is it a DIY job that a noob can do?
Thanks all

it's UK bike year 2000
no restrictions
what to do ?
1) go to your mechanics and have your compression tested . something like under 120 PSI is not good
2) download my file https://www.geneva-racing.ch/~alains/NSRtips.doc and look how to control your valves sequence (bottom page 9)
then report

hey all. After reading an old thread about de coking an exhaust on here i thought i'd give it a bash. I took my exhaust off today and it didnt really look like it needed it. Looked a little black and that was it.
Went to get my pressure tested but the mechanic said if a 2 stroke is ticking over then there shouldn't be anything wrong with the pressure? true?
I also followed alains tips in the nsr doc but I couldn't really understand what I needed to do. What I got was;
Key turned = On low mark
At idle (1500rpm) = On high mark
Over 2000rpm = low mark
About 7000rpm = high mark

I didnt really know what to do after looking at what position the arrow was at. . . .

Help much appreciated Smile

hadies , your valves sequence looks perfect (usualy valves open at 7500) . if you lost power with a good compression the problem is around coked engine . you should de-coke top-end and change rings & seals

Most people use caustic soda to do the exhaust IIRC, not sure if you can use it on the engine though.

I have used a green pan scrubber with wd40 on the top of piston / combustion chamber, just make sure none of the crap gets down the transfers and into the crankcases. Basically use something softer than the piston and you will be fine.
