The condition (specifically of the mechanical bits, for me) of the bike I'd say is much more important when buying, as above.
Best bet to get an idea of 'average', is probably to look at some bikes in the area you want to buy . |

1. Would expect to see around 5K.
When i 1st started bikeing and it was only used for fun, as work was a 5 min walk. I would do around 350 a week averaged over the whole year.
Often with a new bike i would have 1K on in the 1st week.
2. High milage has to be based around the age and type of bike.
Many bikes can happly do 100K with no problems, while others won't be worth touching when they get to 10K due to the high mataince costs.
Decide what type of bike you are looking at and you will get more info on whats considered high milage. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

hmmm depends but the first thing i'd think of would be how much would i have to do and check once i've bought it.
Summer fun should be around 4/5k which is normally dependant on service windows too. I.e the SV is only 3.5k so some people might like to keep to one service a year.
If your going for a bike with thats more than 5 years old with more than 30k on i'd be worried generally but just make sure it feels right. ____________________ Past - CG125 ,KR1S, SV650s, Street Triple R - Current - Duke 390

1. around 5k?
2. I assume you are looking at 650 class(from SV650 or 650S thread), what I was suggested was it's better to avoid bikes used for courier(especially bikes owned by courier company). They are usually high milage. But some dealers rewind the odo meter back, so you must judge by your self in the end. If the bike looks far "tired" for its milage, you should suspect. ____________________ own:2020 Serow 250

I said a vehicle may have multiple policies, not a person
For instance, I'm insured to ride my bike and a friend would also like to ride it, so they add my bike to their policy.
Ebike insurance does not offer third party cover to ride other people's vehicles, but does suggest that you could add your friend's bike to your policy if you'd like to ride it (which is pretty useless when someone offers you a quick blat on their bike in Boxhill carpark ).
I suspect you could have seperate business and personal cover on a vehicle in some cases.
As mentioned, third party cover to use another vehicle is the obvious example where two insurance policies are 'acting' upon one vehicle as such. |

Last year, I had my CBR on my multibike policy and Jay also had it on his multibike - no problem and that's two people living at the same address insuring the same vehicle. Insurance company didn't have a problem with that at all.
Why did we do it? It meant that I was fully comp on it and so was he - if he'd ridden it on his 'other bike' then it would have been TPO if he'd had an accident.
I could have added him as a named rider on my policy but if I do that I a) won't get it as cheap as he's younger than me and b) don't want to - if he bins it badly enough that he needs to claim he can fuck up his own NCB.
So there's a bike insured by two different people, each with a mileage 'allowance', ridden by various other people on their 'any bike' TPO cover and trackdayed to buggery. Oh and it had an over-reading speedo that meant the odometer wasn't in actual miles either. Court'd have fun with that one. |
That is illegal. You can only have 1 insurance policy per vehicle or you can have a conflict of interest. If you ride someone elses bike on your policy, It must be insured itself, ie. if I ride my wifes bike, I can only ride it if it is insured by her on her policy (if that makes sense).
I wanted to get my wife on my policy for riding my ZZR, the insurance wouldn't let me as I have a multi bike policy which was only valid for me, no named riders.
OK, I'll insure the ZZR in her name. No, you can't do that sir as it is illegal etc. The only way to do this is take the ZZR off the multibike policy & start a new one with you both named on it, but you won't have any no claims as your no claims are on your multi bike policy
I didn't bother in the end. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

Did you confirm this, or take the phone-monkey's word for it?
As said, some of the more ridiculous stuff legal stuff I've heard about insurance has come from relatively front-line people in the industry.
In comparison - a friend has got his insurance on one of my bikes, telling the company all the details, including that I was insured and has been fine.
I really don't see where there's a conflict of interest - if he crashes it, his insurance pays out, if I crash it, mine does.
I believe insurance policies often comment about insurance in fringe areas that it's only valid where other specific insurance isn't - for instance you could get holiday insurance that offered the same protection for your stuff as your home insurance, yet not have the FBI after you because of it . |
