Big toe callouses. Blurrghhh.

I'm a restaurant waiter and I walk a lot every day.

Keeps me fit, but on my days off, the underside of my big toes are left painful - When I walk, just as each foot leaves the ground, it swivels a little on the toe to shift my weight (I know, sounds strange).

Gets me paranoid that I walk funny
- but it could be normal, and maybe I'm getting off lightly with only a small problem.

I used to walk odd as well everybody in school wondered why with my right foot I'd twist it round to the side instead of walking normally.

I would get funny wear patterns on my shoes.

It was caused by working in a kitchen and having a monster ingrown toenail (that was so deep and curled inwards you could feel it through and around the skin on the side and bottom of my toe).

I didn't notice it until a guy called Chris told me I was doing it and I corrected my walk to a normal one.

Reminds me, I think I have a verruca I've been ignoring. Doesn't cause any pain, but I could be avoiding walking on it subconsciously.

I have callouses but they aren't painful.

I would suggest that perhaps your shoes are not the best fit.

I only wear Doc Martin shoes these days, anything else just rubs and gives me sore feet.

I spend a lot of my time in wellies too. My wellies cost £60 a pair and I get a new pair about every 6 months because they are worn out. It is definately worth spending some money on your footwear if you are standing/walking all the time.

Good advice, my shoes are due for replacement anyway - they're just standard black leather Clarks shoes.
