since i rebuilt the nsr it's been a bit sluggish and only starts on choke unless it's been run that day. it also gives a lot of smoke when pulling away but it stops after a minute or so. runs like normal after that. even letting it warm up for five minutes it still won't go any better. also a bit weaker at top end. i was told by a mate the fuel mix valve on the side of the block needs adjusting. i tried with a spanner earlier but i could only move it a bit. tightening it made a difference but i don't want to do it to much. it was loosened to remove the engine so i know it needs doing but i wanna be sure it's deffo that. fuel economy's not changed though.

Your mates a bit silly, it's the power valve not a fuel mix valve. Have you checked to see if it is set properly or if the head gasket is leaking?

Sounds like it might be leaking at the main bearing seals.

I'm not sure if the 125 is the same as the 250 but an NSR smoking more for the 1st minute is normal.

There is a solenoid that allows more oil to flow for the 1st minute of running.

he wasn't anyone here. my bad. he said power valve not fuel. after some cautious fiddling with a spanner in a seriously tight space it's now nearly back to normal. at least it wasn't a million miles behind another mates gs600f today around coome abbey. think some tinkering is in order. still smokes but less than before and starts without choke ok. now hits aroung 10,000 rpm before losing power. before it would redline before you noticed any loss. glad it's sorted. going to a bike/car meet tomorrow and i wanna show off a bit! cheers for the posts.
