Hi, does anyone know what the valve clearances on a 2003 (V3) varadero 125 should be? I also need the procedure on how to reset cam timing.

Is it buckets and shims on this bike or tappets?

My mate's been having loss of power and a loud rattley engine lately, so I wanted to start with the basics before attempting to take the head and barrel off.

I can't find the information I want anywhere..... Honda do a workshop manual... but it's about £25.

Thanks to anyone who can help me Smile

I belive on the varadero 125 it is tappets. I am not sure of the valve clerance and what it should be or the procedure to check this but i can get the details on valve clearnce's for you in the next few days as mine is going in for it it's service and it is time to check the clearence's.

Would that be of any help to you?

Hi mate, thanks for your help.

Unfortunately I was finding this information out for a mate (as his engine lost power and starting making a racket) and he just went ahead and stripped the engine down. The rear cyclinder has snapped a valve and shot it through the piston.

Due to the fact that engine spares for this bike are like rocking horse shit, we've gone ahead and bought a complete second hand engine for £275.

We couldn't have just got a rebore as the head was fucked too.

The plan was to check the valve clearances and do a compression test first... but he jumped ahead and stripped the engine.

I found out the specs though... althought I can't remember the clearances. The compression should be 13Bar. If you need the valve clearances mate, give me a shout and I'll get hold of them again.

Snapped valve Shocked Did the bike not feel down on power because of that? I know how hard parts are to come by for the vara125 as i need a new left fork on mine as it got slightly bent in an accident. Was quoted £170 incl labour to srip and replace the damaged upper fork tube but have managed to get a second fork in good nick for £100 incl P&P. Result

Yer, the bike was down on power and sounded like a bag of spanners!

I think the reason parts are so expensive and rare is because the bike brand new is close to £3500 - meaning not many people are going to spend that on a 125.

The same mate of mine wrote the bike off about a year ago (it was his fault). Here's the list of what was bought... fair enough some bargains there but the money soon adds up. Bare in mind these are pretty much all used parts from ebay and various bike breakers.

Wheel - £60
Indicator and inspection cap - £26.20
Side stand - £14.99
Fork Seals - £7.75
Mudguard - £15.14
Fairings - £57
Frame - £224.99
Wet n dry - £5.97
Fairing Clips - £5.99
Spray paint - £11.20
Forks - £63.50
Radiator - £10.99
Disc and Bars - £89.30
Clutch cable and oil filter - £17.16
Oil, indi relay, grips - £15.30
Coolant, water - £2.77
Yokes - £38.99
Number plate - £12

Total - £679.24
