so there was a strange banging noise when i rebuilt the engine last week. i wasnt sure what it was, it wasnt affecting the bike really. it still worked. it had a large squish area so i knew it wasnt the piston contacting the head.
anyway, i thought it seemed to work so i carried on riding it. it started to bog down and this got worse to the point where it began to stall. anyway today i decided i would ride it down to the lock up and strip it down to find out whats going on.
on the journey i had a high pitch pinging noise, which i thought could be piston rings, reed valve flutter, detonation. it seemed to go away when i opened the throttle so i tried to keep it open as much as possible
so anyway, i stripped the top end off and found the power valve had broken in half and had been slowly eaten away by my nice forged piston. luckily the forged piston was hard and the powervalve was some shitty cast ally thing. ive got a load of spare blades and theyre all steel. so this must obviously be some cheap copy bollocks.
so my consisted of getting the train to london to get the parts. coming home. riding to the lock up., removing the engine, flushing the engine out. replacing the head, dialing in the piston for the right squish, building it back up, refitting the engine and riding it home again. all that in about 11 hours including travel.
looking down the exhaust port and you can see the PV in two parts

end of the OV beaten eaten by the piston.

piston undamaged. rings undamaged. barrel undamaged. fucking lucky escape!!

filling the engine with petrol, sloshing it all about and draining it out many times to remove all the bits. amazingly not that much in the bottom end. it was all above the piston

and finally the cunt that caused it all. anyone who has a cast ally PV blade, please remove it and piss on it then throw it away and put a steel one in

the strangest part is that the PV blade broke and on the shaft where it has crack had been burred right over.
much more power and response now. and a PV thats in one piece. |

I put marmite in the 2t like the internet said and used cheese to lube the part before rebuilding. It's gonna smell like a gourmet kitchen. Who cares if it works |
