Misfire at full throttle

Hi, Had a good run out, then nipped to my mates. Set off alls well then its starts stuttering with the odd backfire. I back off the throttle and alls well again. Did this all the way home.
So what to check 1st please

Bike is a 1980 Honda CB250RSA

Fuel starvation...

Might be the carbs, you could try draining the carb/s (sorry, not sure if its a twin or single) and see what the fuel looks like. Water should be evident, as should any crap that could possibly be in there. Have you got an inline filter on the fuel line and is the tank clean on the inside. I've recently had similar problems.

Bike always serviced, but will check for a good spark 1st and move onto fuel tank.
Hope its not carb related as they look so damm fiddly

Ok all sorted
Problem was traced to a sticking choke cable, which i've replaced.
Thank Cliff it wasn't the carb
