Keep away from Milan. It's shit.

I can recommed:

Stelvio Pass or San Bernardino Pass (do a separate one each way)
Lake Como
Lake Garda

In the summer, it should be amazing.

Just be careful on those french motorways - the pigs in france are utter !@&%!

Funny that you should say that but when I went last summer I found the opposite to be true.

I loved Milan.

Stelvio Pass is way overated and too slow to be really fun.
Lake Como -everything closes too early despite it being a beautiful place.

I'd recommend hitting the roads around Nice. Some staggeringly good roads plus you can use Nice as a base which is a fantastic city... Thumbs Up

N85 Castellane to Grasse is good
N202 From Castellane is very very good
N94 is also good only if it is dry

I would probable use Castellane as your base actually , Nice is busy , and expensive , though there is the beach of course.

Did this myself in 2007, 2500mls in 5days including a day on the drink on the Sunday for the GP Laughing
For what it`s worth we went from Newcastle/Amsterdam ferry as we live in the north east. Through Holland, Germany (no tolls) overnight in Lindau, Austria and Through Lichtenstien, Switzerland into Italy.

The Stelvio pass was impassable for the last few miles because of snow, in early June Shocked https://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i224/Smiler69/Mugello2006033.jpg we stayed in Bellagio, Lake Como, the second night. Headed to Mugello on the Saturday, it`s mental Laughing

Buy yourself a picnic in Scarperia (the town next to the circuit, beautiful place) for the Sunday, take some wine and beer and share with the locals, magic.

Set off early on the Monday, headed for ST Gotthard tunnel/pass but got diverted due to them being closed 100km from them and had to do a 400km detour via the ST Bern` pass, long day of 960mls but the pass was awesome. Stayed travel lodge in Bonn that night and back to the ferry on the Tuesday. JUST DO IT!

Below is the Bernino side of the Stelvio, below the snow line.
