While i was out riding, a thought struck me... like lightning but not as dangerous Razz

Anyway, being a ugh dare i say it... car driver for 10 years but now seeing the light and getting a bike, i thought about looking to pass but...

provisonal licences are now kinda restricted to 6 points instead of the 12... if i remember right? can't remember if you just resort back to "L" status or if you actually get banned, but being a car driver... does the crappy 6 points bit effect me?

*crosses fingers*

Your car licence and your bike licence are the same thing so whatever is on on is on the other - so if you start riding a 125 you would get provision on your current licence for it (after CBT). For the full story I can ask my dad who works at the DVLA.

If you get 6 points in your first 2 years of having your licence, you lose the licence.

Unfortunately, that does mean that if I got 6 points now for a bike offence (cos I'm in the first 2 of having that licence), yes, I would lose my car licence as well, even though I've had it 9 years.

The only good thing is that you only have to sit one of the tests in order to get all your categories back after losing it.

And of course, the reverse applies to people getting their car licence later on - be too silly and your bike licence will go out the window as well.

I guess cos you already had the 6 points before getting the extra category, you get away with it.

Hi

I thought the 6 points rule only applied to your first test pass. Any subsequent extra categories were irrelevant.

All the best

It's 6 new points. They don't count the 6 you already have, but if you go to court and they see you've had 6 already and got some new ones they make take them into consideration.

I was told it was 6 points from when you first obtain a full licence. So pass you car bike test 2 years after your car test doesn't reset you to a 6point limit.
