Here we go, entering a dispute with an insurance company.

Got my renewal forms through today, and was a bit baffled as to why they want to charge me more, and why it says 0 years no claims discount. When I had a smash last april, they assured me that I would not lose my ncb if I settled for 50/50, this was the only reason I didn't go to court. And now when I call them up, they're saying there's a claim against me. Got to wait until tomorrow to talk to someone who will actually get something done here.

Anyway, i'm with Lexham, who I think are the brokers, and NIG as the insurers, with Plantec as the company who deal with the claims, I have a letter, from Plantec, saying, "your insurers have confirmed that there is no claim against your policy." The main purpose of the letter containing this was to tell me that the 3rd party's insurers were prepared to settle 50/50, and were awaiting my decision.

Anyone know whether this will make it a dead cert that I keep my ncb? Or whether they are under any obligations here, or could easily just tell me to jog on and deal with it?

Is the claim all settled or is it still outstanding ?
That i think will make a diffrence. Till its settled it will effect your NCB.

I Am Not An Insurance Analyst, but...

...you've kept your no-claims, sure, but the accident is relevant.
The insurance actuaries (people the likes of whom find accounting too exciting a prospect) figure that, statistically, someone who's had an accident recently (regardless of fault) is likely to have another soon after, so they load the premiums accordingly. If you'd not got an NCD your premium would go up the next year anyway.

Basically, it sucks any which way you look at it.

Shocked

If you didn't make a claim or if no-one made a claim on your insurance how will your premium be increased?????

Your premium may be increased due to company rate changes etc.

No Claim Discount means No Claim Discount. If you make a CLAIM it will be affected..
Unless you have NCD protection.

The situation here is unusual in that he has made a claim but has been assured that it will not affect the NCD.
In all matters like this it is important to retain all documentation and names dates and have it in writing before agreeing to it.
It is not the insurer wiggling out it is normally the inept toerag who took the call who has given the wrong information.

Ok, how many years NCB did you have last year at the start of the policy?

If it was 0, then your NCB has remained unaffected, you still have 0. However they have not awarded you any at all. If this is the case I am afraid you have been hoodwinked by a fast talker who was encouraging you to accept 50/50.

If you had NCB, then in accepting 50/50 you would lose NCB in every case. However if your insurance accepted recording an incident with no claim, then you can salvage something.

In effect never accept 50/50, you have nothing to lose by fighting on.

Really? I heard the other way around - that after an accident you're more likely to drive more carefully and they take that into account instead!

Any sort of claim, fault or non fault wil raise a premium, as sonic says a second claim is statistically more likely.

Mine was up from £87 last year to £133 this.....

Add in i have a extra years NCB....

Rates change all the time.

Very rare these days that the cheapest quote for renewal on a bike is the same company as last year.....

Moral, never axcept the renewall quote without shopping around 1st.

I got mine down to £73, just simply doing a new policy with the same co.
But decided as it was the 2nd year they had pulled the stunt and using Quidco and counting the cash back i could get a better deal with another co. In that it was £8 dearer, but i did get breakdown cover for free, well £8 Mr. Green

Even if you protect your NCB and you have an accident your premium goes up. Say you have full 60% discount protected and you have an accident, the next time you renew your premium goes up in accordance with the statistics but you'll still get 60% off that higher premium. so all your protecting is the percentage saving from the full amount of your insurance NOT protecting the right to pay the same ebery year.

Even if you someone crashes into you and accepts responsibility your premium is likely to rise a small percentage as statistically your more of a hazard.

This doesnt help the OP but may explain protected NCB a bit better.

I had 0 years ncb at the start of the policy, so it will be unaffected if they don't give me a year's no claims.

They didn't contact me today, which doesn't surprise me. I just hope this letter I have will sort this all out, otherwise my already bad opinion of insurance companys will hit rock bottom, and someone on the other end of the phone will have to bear the brunt of it to make me feel better.

So, your NCB IS unaffected by the claim, you had none then and have none now.

Sounds like the 3rd party company dealing with the claim for you have been a bit fly Wink

If you make a claim you lose the NCD...... Does this have to be spelled out?
If you DO NOT make a claim your NCD is not affected.

If you make a claim but recover your uninsured loss. (Your excess) from the thrid party. In effect they accept liabilty your NCD is not affected.

If the company has loaded your policy because of statistics they are wrong.

Ask why they apply loading and move to another company.

Insurance companies are d1cks.

Rang to insure the car last week (C Nash). 3 year no claims mirrored from the bike. They tell me I haven't got 3 years no claims. "The accident you had in '07" The accident that wasn't my fault? The one I got my excess paid back etc etc. "It' showing as your fault on the computer". It's showing as "No blame" on the bike policy in my hand with 3 years NCB on it. Rolling Eyes

"How does does £700 sound with the mirrored no claims if we can do that?"

"Bye".

I've been told more than once by insurance reps that any claim will get you a loading whether the fault is yours or not. The reason is that you were involved in an accident and statistically this makes you a higher risk. This is nothing to do with NCD, that's based on whther there's been a claim (full or part fault) against you (or one pending) and if you took a 50/50 deal you were accepting part-fault and therefore will lose at least some of your NCD. Also be aware that the value of any claim has a bearing on your loading so if you caused £200 of damage the loading will be less than if you wrote off a 30 grand motor.
