is there a way i can have the xbox connected with an rj45 to my laptop which is connected to a wireless home network and get internet on the xbox from the laptop?

if i can it will mean the lead goes straight to the laptop in my room rather than having to drill holes through the floor.

laptop gets the internet from a wireless network hub.

and im on vista, which i have little experience with if that makes any difference.

Hi,

I use the BTvision powerline adapters, you can pick them up on ebay for next to nothing.

Just plug ethernet cable from the xbox into one of the adapters, adapter then plugs into plug socket on wall, second adapter is linked by ethernet cable to the wireless router and then plugged into plug socket.

The whole thing then uses the house electrical wiring to connect, I've had no problems at all

To answer the op's question ,

Yes you can no problem, just use ics (internet connection sharing) on your laptop. Or simply buy a cheap wireless router and use that as an access point, then there is no need for the laptop to be on.
