After advice on these bikes really. I've been looking into a bigger sports bike, But insurance quotes are silly on anything bigger than a 600. And all the 600s I see I dont like, or cant justify paying what they are advertised for, because I can get the 1000 equivalent for about £200 more.
I like the thought of a Supermoto. I'd only be using it for work and back, And fun blasts. Not after anything practical.
What are these bikes like for a pillion. And what are they like in general. I've never really had a go on a supermoto other than my pit bike.

I have that very same bike (as its the s version its a limited editon carbon style with gold wheels ) and tbh It does all I want from it. It gets me around town etc fine has a good spec and decent service intervals (3500 - 4000 miles) from a reliable suzuki motor Its not a rip your arms of race bred moto but it does what it says on the tin. Comuting and fun is exactly what I bought mine for and I have no complaints. Its not great to carry a pillion with, although I have and still do taken pillions but its not really the best for it. Today for instance I did around 140ish miles manchester/southport/rivvi/manchester and It did it without a problem and I wasnt crippled by it either. Its a bike that makes you grin like a muppet and wants you to use any road no matter how many miles it adds to your journey to avoid motorways. I get around 100 miles until reserve, which then costs me about £8 to fill back up. ____________________ Dont Click HERE

Supermotos are also very expensive for what they are - for a quite heavy one, what do you really get over something like an SV650?
Not much really, in fact the majority of the 'fun' comes from the lack of power, which means you have to work a bit harder. Could always restrict, stick on some renthals and downgear an SV for a lot less money .
Can't see them being that amazing with a pillion, but shouldn't be too bad - I took pillions a few times for bits of distance on my DR600 and it was ok though a bit slow. That did have a softer seat, however.
I like(d) my 404 for in-town work, you definitely have to work it a lot more than the zx9, but if you make the effort it's quite nippy. However, one of the reasons I use the ZX9 over the KTM is that the wider bars on dirt-biased bikes do mean you can't get through quite as thin spaces, though they do go over most car mirrors. |
