Saw the report on the Tata Nano today and immediately thought, "Should've kept the old engine from the ZZR. Pick up a nano, whip out the 600+ cc two cylinder engine and drop the IL4 98 BHP engine in.. Smile

Give it 12 months and I bet you'll be able to get "mini smart-ukis" based on these things.. Smile

Hi

Suspect that by the time they piled on everything required for UK safety and emissions rules along with import duty the price would about triple.

All the best

I bet they have the world's most flimsy chassis. Possibly made of cheese.

No worse than my old ZZR then. Smile. A few stiffer springs on the back and a support bar to strengthen up the engine bay, drop on a 600 ish CC Kwak engine and Bob's your uncle... Smile

My thoughts exactly. Yes, its the cheapest production car.. In India that is. Laughing

I wouldn't be surprised that the price would double (if not more) here in the Uk if it ever became avaliable.

That nano just stinks of death. Might as well just wrap yourself in tinfoil and ride around on a bike. Prob come off better in a crash.

But whatever. Indian middle classes aspire to owning a car and well, its a car I guess, so good luck to em.

From reading a little about this car, if/when it comes over here it'll cost about £4k, does a max of 65mph, around 50mpg, doesn't have air vents in the car and the windows aren't electric, plus you only get a drivers side mirror.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but the cheapest cars currently here are the little Hyundai's/Daewoo's etc and they're not much off the £4k mark for a 'full' car. Rolling Eyes

Hi

From a few weeks old copy of Autocar the cheapest car is a Kia Picanto 1L at £5995. Can only find 2 models of Fiat Panda, 3 models of Kia Picanto and one model of Smart car for under £7k (although a basic model Toyota Aygo only misses that cut off by £20).

All the best

Keith

The article I read on it today said they plan on releasing an European version, slightly bigger and up to safety spec in a year or so. price to be c4,000GBP. Still cheap, but I'd rather have a second hand Focus or summat.

Think it was from the Daily Mail (which I was linked to, I don't go there by my own 'choice'!).

EDIT - just read beanfeast's post properly. What he said!

Well, just saw a 2nd hand Smart for about 3 grand with 40k on the clock, just the right milage for the engine needing replacement...

I wonder how much it would cost to import a Nano, add the basics to bring it up to european spec and slap a big engine in it. It wouldn't be any different I guess from building a Cateram (or copy) in the shed as a project....

I would love a Caterham, but one of those things Sick

If you stuck a big engine in youd have to uprate brakes, suspension, mirrors Laughing etc.

What is the point, you just end up with a bit faster pile of crap.

You can get a Perodua Kelisa for £4399! Clicky. Basically an old Daihatsu Cuore I think so sort of a 'proper car' - more so than the Nano in any case.
