 |
|
Now I have a garage and space for another bike I was thinking about getting or building a supermoto for pissing about on
I quite fancy something 2 stroke and small, maybe a 250? Was even considering a 125 but I imagine you pay a premium and they're all shagged by learners. I don't really have a clue what's out there to be honest, I don't want something too highly strung so a road oriented motocrosser like the KMX, DT, TS and MTX 125s that I lusted after 10 years ago would fit the bill, but perhaps 250 versions?
Anyone recommend a good starting point? Don't want to spend more than a grand really. ____________________ ZX6R + CBR600RR |

Yamaha TDR 250 - I'm after one myself when I've got the cash/different job as I wouldn't want to have to ride one all day, everyday....
Maybe stick some SM wheels on a Honda CRM 250? Hella lot of fun, and should be achievable budget wise with a little bit of ebay hunting |

I'd forgotten about the TDR250, loved the TDR125. I take it the engine is the same as the tzr250? 45bhp or so?
Like the idea of an RGV or one of the other 250 2 stroke sports bikes but I want a shitter I can wreck doing wheelies and stuff I've already got a sports bike anyway! ____________________ ZX6R + CBR600RR |

....errr, right. Sorry you seem to have misunderstood, it was just a figure of speech. I have no intention of buying something and riding it until it blows up without bothering to look after it. What I mean is I want something cheap to hoon aound on that doesn't owe me a fortune if I crash it. ____________________ ZX6R + CBR600RR |

I seen a DT 125 in (aftermarket) SM trim the other day and he was flying, got the back end right out going into a left hander, the boy sure knew what he was doing. Well worth a look into I'm sure. ____________________ Suzuki GSX-R 750 K6. |

I've never seen why people see pre-mix as such an issue. Get a small clear bottle and mark of the appropriate pre-mix amount in litres of petrol, then stick it in your tail-pack thingy. Fill with fuel, poor appropriate number of 'litres' of 2 stroke in, pay, leave.
Standard enduro seats definitely aren't as comfortable as some. However, doesn't mean they're not usable (KTM do sell 'comfort' seats too) - my CCM has a seat from a RM250 motocross bike, and I've done a full day (200 miles, 160 of which in one go pretty much) on that.
My KTM690 seat is actually worse than that, but with a £10.99 sheep-skin pad I've done several journeys of 300 miles and more in one go without too much pain.
Incidentally, I do have a CRM125 'project' for sale. Comes with a spare set of wheels, which I was planning to stick supermoto rims on if I could get it done for a reasonable price. Uses an NSR engine, so better for road stuff (though it 'keeps up' ok off road if you make good use of the gearbox). My vague plan is to do it up as a semi-shiny supermoto and sell it, but would accept offers beforehand.
Anyway, regardless, if you want real supermoto sillyness, I'd still definitely recommend a proper enduro bike. |

I'm not too sure about the 125 idea as it may be a bit too slow. Have to ride one really and see. This thread has given me a few ideas though so thanks for that ____________________ ZX6R + CBR600RR
