I bought my first bike last weekend in the beautiful shape of a 2002 NSR... Mmmmmmmmm

Anyway... the other night (freezing night by the way), I was sat on the bike, lights on, engine off, waiting for a friend... I went to start the bike and it wouldnt start. The headlights cut off but the Neutral and Side Stand light was on... when I went to switch the lights on, the 2 lights cut off and the headlights never came on... I ended up bump starting the bike... which worked.

Last night, I tried starting the bike to no avail. I can hear a buzzing noise from the battery and a whirring noise from just under the petrol tank...

I've noticed when warming the bike and when Im riding that the dial lights dim slightly, then when I rev the lights get brighter...?

Please! Answers! ARGH!

Bear in mind, I've stalled more than a few times Embarassed

Thanks in advance!

Ste

After an ongoing battle with the bike since the topic started, it's finally OK!

****Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I got her back an hour ago and I am absolutely over the flippin' moon!!!!

Here goes:
Carried out service/checkover
Investigate electric start - carried out test on battery - Requires new battery
Resecured mudguard mount bolts
Refitted rear pad anti-rattle clip correctly
Replaced plug cap

Removed both wheels, removed tyres, replaced both valves and rebuilt
Changed brake fluid front/rear
Drained coolant, replenished anti-freeze

All in all including parts, sundries and whatever - £160 Sad

I was initially told that the valves on the tyres were going but shoud be fine, to keep an eye on it... I thought "I might as well replace it now considering I got the money"... good job too as the mechanic said they were on their way out and it was only a matter of time before I would have had a problem.

Good news was I took the battery back to the place I got it from in not long ago and they tested it and replaced it free of charge... took it back to Bike Medic who tested the reg/rec - no problem with that... started first time! I was told by both the mechanic and Speedwells themselves who I bought the battery from that it was a duff battery and was discharging itself.

Rode the bike home, it responds SOOOOOO much better and rides brilliant!

Now for the MOT and tax...***
